Yes. If his level of play declines then it's a one year deal anyway. Franklin kicked ass this season and it's too big a gamble to let him walk thinking he won't play to that level again next year.
Besides, there is NO CAP!

is A. Franklin worth $7million for 1 year?

What other NT could we get for $5-$7million a year?
You must understand the process of the Franchise tag! Nearly no player is worth the Franchise tag, but teams issue it to insure that the protect their rights from losing the player for nothing. So basically they tag Franklin so nobody else gets a shot at him and the disadvantage of that is the high price tag...with the reward being of keeping him on ur squad.
Just so u know..Julius Peppers made 16 million last year. No football player is worth that money, but Carolina did it just so they didnt lose him! So its not technically about the money, its about keeping the player on ur team if u cant workout a contract extension.

Yes is he. He is a clog for our defense. He allows Willis to do what he does best and Willis knows how important Franklin is and has said so to the media. If you don't retain Franklin, Willis may not be too happy.
How many years has he been with the niners? what ever it is..this year(contract year) is the only year he showed up to play
only his 3rd year

Exactly, A. Plummer all over again!
The only thing good about the franchise tag is you can let him go if he doesn't produce during that expensive @$$ one year!
No. And no.
Franklin began to flourish the season before last when Sing took over and scrapped Nowin's f*cked up flex defense and went to a one gap 3-4 base defense.
The guy is one of the best 3-4 NTs in the game.
He'll do just fine next season...he's no Ahmed Plummer. Not even close.

The alternative is having Isaac "No Motor" Sopoaga in the middle!
So...YES!

That is not how it works. Just cause Franklin would get one year at 7 mill doesn't mean Willis is going to seek a 10 - 12 mill a year contract. The reason for the high price of the franchise is that it tries to force teams to work a long term deal in which the overall yearly number would be less.

Oh heck yes he's worth it. Lot of money but look at it this way, he hasn't been paid all that much so far, so he's just getting a little catch up. And don't worry about his slacking off, because this next year will be like a contract year all over again.
That said, it's time to try again in the draft.

1 1/2 if you count the end of 2008.
And that coincides with Sing taking over and going to a basic 3-4 rather than the Nowin Big Nipple defense (all the offenses get to suckle)

I hear ya . . . and it was a contract year. But we do need him in 2010. I think we should just franchise him again and make him repeat 2009 if he wants to get paid.
