The Shaun Hill story...

Shaun Hill was a 3rd string quartberback with the Vikings. His only 2 snaps during his 3 years with the Vikings were kneel downs at the end of the game.

Then he came to the 9ers. He was the 3rd string QB behind Alex Smith and Trent Dilfer. As we know, the 3rd string QB doesn't get many snaps during practice. Once Alex got hurt, Dilfer came in because Nolan thought Dilfer was the better player. We suffered through most of the season and had to watch Trent Dilfer try to perform.

Then Dilfer got hurt and we all thought "Oh God! The 3rd stringer is coming in. We are all screwed because he is gonna be worst than Dilfer!" But Hill performed well. People claimed that he was not a good "practice player", but he had that QB instinct. And he won games. He ended up being 10-6 as a starter.

So my point is, just because some of you claim that Nate Davis is not "ready", how do you really know that? Any of you who have watched the video of every pass thrown by him on youtube will see that he looks comfortable in the pocket. Yes it was preseason, but that was the first time that he was exposed to the speed of the NFL, and he did a pretty damn good job. Just because he is a 3rd stringer does not mean that he may not have the potential to be a starter. We all know that just because a player was not selected in the first round of the draft, or didnt come from a big college, does not mean that they will not develop into a great QB. (See Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Tony Romo, Brett Favre, Steve Young, Matt Schaub. Jeff Garcia)

I believe that Davis needs to get more reps during practice and the preseason. Alex is way ahead in terms of timing down with the receivers, but Alex doesn't have "It". And by "It", I mean that QB instinct. (Aaron Rodgers) So we need to let Nate Davis start workin his way into more playing time!
I see what you did there. A back door attempt to add another hate-Smith thread.

Not.

Just another thread knocking Smith. Dull it is.

Shuan Hill was robbed of the starting job. We proabably would have been in the playoffs had he remained the starter.

This has to be a joke post. Ha ha

Shaun Hill had one bad half, and he was demoted. Alex Smith had a bad half against Green Bay, Detroit, St. Louis, and had bad games against Tennessee and Philly.
While hills limits were exposed during his play in 09. His playcalling was seriously not helping, as jimmy raye didn't seem to wake up from a coma until about week 8 in 09

Thread Body:

Since people like syrup with pancakes and most who watch and play football are people. The 49ers have three QBs on their roster who are people and they most than likely like syrup with their pancakes. Of those three QBs, Smith may suck and since Davis being QB AND a person who most likely enjoys syrup with pancakes, he's ready to do what all people who play and watch football do - START QB. It's BECAUSE he enjoys syrup with his pancakes makes his ready to play.

Oh yeah, Alex Smith sucks despite possibly liking syrup with pancakes because I've see no stats saying otherwise!

It's all about the syrup.... and pancakes. See?

You forgot to mention the blueberries. A qb without blueberries? Unthinkable

DUDE did you ACTUALLY WATCH ANY OF THE GAMES WITHOUT YOUR HOMER GLASSES? Seriously. Shaun had an awful game vs ATL, AWFUL half vs Houston, mediocre games in every other game, and the only time he looked rather good was the last few minutes vs AZ. We weren't making the playoffs with this guy at QB, he couldn't make all the throws, his arm was compacting the field, Gore and Coffee couldn't get any room to run, and he took too many sacks killing our field position. His wins came vs an AZ team that we owned, and then 2 terrible teams in Seattle and St Louis. How the hell are you going to say he was a winner, when we had won 3 and lost 3 with him as the starting QB. That's a joke. And when Smith had a bad half, he usually rebounded with a good 2nd half to somewhat redeem himself. Hill couldn't even do that against ATL who did not have an elite defense either. This post is a f**king joke, talking about a shaun hill amazing story that should be on one of those woman's networks like lifetime or whatever and it's actually a thread about why Smith "doesn't have an it" and why Nate Davis is god. This post sucks.

Youre kidding right? We couldnt do ANYTHING on offense with Shaun Hill.. If Alex Smith wasnt the Qb theres no way VD wouldve had his 13 TDs....

Shaun Hill alowed teams to stack 8 guys in the box because he couldnt throw further than 15 yards... that also shutdown our run..
The reason why 49er QBs struggle doesn't have a lot to do with their respective skill sets, it's because they have to play behind the worst offensive line in the league: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

Gore and Coffee stuffed at the line of scrimmage? Thanks, OL. QB does a 3-step drop and is immediately hammered for a sack? Thanks, OL.

Guys, it doesn't matter if it's Nate, Alex, or Shaun under center if it's behind this line. Drafting a stud OL or two will help. Solari and Brown coaching will help. But until the OL improves pretty dramatically from what we saw of it last season, any QB would struggle behind it.

If he is knocking Smith, what's the problem? Unless he's saying Hill should still be the starter, there is no problem. We are still without a decent QB on our roster, that was the main thing holding us back after 35-0 Ram win. Now if he was defending Alex and how he should still start for us and all that BS then we have a problem.

Apparently in San Francisco, QB "greatness" is measured by the strength of your arm. Lets see, Shaun Hill gets us to a 3-2 record (should have been 4-1) with an ULTRACONSERVATIVE offense that featured nothing, and he gets canned.

Smith, on the other hand, has the offense tweaked multiple times, even to the point that our star offensive player (Gore) is put on the back burner, yet he still botches in the majority of the games he plays in (Tenn, GB, Sea, Chi, Phill).

Hill sucks because he has a weak arm and cant execute a bad playbook.

Smith is the next Montana because he can throw 10-15 yards further, still not being able to execute a playbook that has been tweaked multiple times in his favor.

Oh, and he only passed for 300 yards once in his career, and needs his defense to create 5-7 turnovers in order to execute a "complete" game.

Damn shame that old school Niner fans have disappeared, and now our bandwagon is full of half-assed supporters who base their support on looks, biceps, and jock size rather than the ability to quarterback.

Pathetic..........
