If Brooks becomes the starting OLB, who sits?

This

I agree. The game the Nines played the Titans, I thought for sure Haralson was going bump CJ out of bounds on that one TD run to the pylon. I mean, I know CJ is lightning fast, but he made Haralson look really bad.

tv remote took the fallout on that one
Lawson should definitely be the starting SLB. However, Haralson may still be the 3rd down pass rusher opposite of Ahmd Brooks. Obviously Haralson had a off year, but if he get back to where he was last season, he should do just fine.

Even though Lawson has 6 sacks this season, I am not impressed and don't think he should be the pass rusher on 3rd down. Edge rushers must have the take off speed and be able to time the snap count. I don't recall once in this season that Lawson effectively sack or get close to a sack with a pure speed rush. I believe an effective edge rusher must be a threat in pure speed rush, and combined with other moves to be a complete rusher. As a result, Lawson don't have much potential to get any better than what he has shown this season, which is not enough.

Lawson should compete with Takeo Spikes as one of the coverage linebackers next to Willis in Nickle defense. He should provide better speed and coverage skills than Spikes.

He won't be the starting OLB.
Haralson, without a doubt. I don't remember who wrote it (one of Matt's or someone else), but they said he's been playing like a b/u, not a starter, and that really hits it on the head. Manny's a very good all-around OLB...major knock on him has been his pass rushing skills, but he improved them considerably this season. I'd love to see us draft a Hughes or Sapp...so we can get closer to having two stud pass rushers...just look at how Anthony Spencer stepping up has boosted Dallas'.

Right now Haralson sits, but if Brooks turns out to be pretty good would people be adverse to trading Lawson for a high pick and getting another pass rusher?

I just say this as I think he could be a really good 4-3 OLB

If that happens, should we just trade haralson?

No. But I think that Brooks could.

Manny(LOLB), Brooks (IKE), Bam Bam (Mike) and Harylson (ROLB)

I like TKO but we gotta look to the future at some point. That sack Brooks got goin OVER the Line untouched is a pretty solid indication that Brooks could probably fill the roll pretty well.

of course Brooks could. he used to BE an ILB. they converted him because of his pure pass rush ability. lol his pass rushing skill is what this team needs most, so they arent going to convert him back after the booming success he had being switched to OLB.

its Haralson that loses his job, and its not even close. Lawson had a top ten 3-4 OLB type season.

i say we give Haralson camp/preseason and maybe about the first 3-5 games next year to take his job back, and if Brooks outplays him still, or he cant keep up, we make the move.
Well as much of a freak as Brooks is, I still question his stamina. We have yet to see him play more than a full series in a game. If he can last a whole game and still produce at a high level, then I would sit Haralson. We would have our pass rushing specialist on one side and a solid all around OLB in Lawson on the other. An energized Harylson off of the bench doesn't sound half bad either !
lawson and brooks and justin smith pass rushing, it's going to be a QB murder fest.
I know what you're thinking, lawson, pass rush, come on. That guy has a motor that doesn't stop believe me, hemay not get many sacks but he is always in the QB's face. I think the problem is they use to many edge rushes and do not focus on putting enough pressure up the gut of the Oline, I have seen countless times where the QB could just step right up into the pocket and deliver the ball.
Lawson and Brooks could start with Harylson coming in on Passing downs. He would see a lot of play on both sides. ROLB or LOLB. Some one needs to take over for Brooks if Brooks starts.

From what I saw this season, Brooks lined up as the ROLB everytime he was out there. If I'm not mistaken, that is typically Haralson's spot. Manny usually lines up as the LOLB. Parys hasn't done enough, in my opinion, to secure him a starting role. He'll provide good depth though.

They rotated at the end of the season, but Brooks would come in for Manny on 3rd/passing downs more than Haralson.

Moving forward though, you'd think Brooks would start at the WILL spot. Which is Haralson's spot right now. This would allow Haralson to be more of a pass rush specialist, and he could come in for Lawson on passing downs.
Of course, this is assuming Brooks can become a complete player this off-season.
