i dont think pass rush is a Major issue however we can not ignore it i think it would be best to draft a passs rush specialist in the first 3 rounds
now we need to work on not giving up so many.....

Hey, dont forget we where the first team to sack Payton Manning and 3 times none the less.
That's kinda surprising to see the D ranked that high in some areas.

Makes you realize how close this team is to being a playoff contender.

I didn't at first believe it but after a full season I have come to believe that pass rush is not our biggest problem. Ahmad Brooks is good and Justin Smith is good. Our Defensive Coordinator is good at scheming sacks with perhaps an under talented pass rusher roster. Some of them are just schemed rather than being dominant pass rusher guys. That's ok though.

Our biggest problems for 2010 are....

~ OL
~ KR/PR
~ Game breaking speed on offense (another WR or CJ Spiller as a speed back). We still really need more weapons.

And our number one problem of course being at QB. And that 10 sack a year OLB guy, we don't have either.
Nice post some say we only got sacks against weak teams. Didn't we get like 3 sacks against Minnesota and Indy, please confirm?

My favorite stat was 4th in the league in points allowed. Hell I don't care if we are 32nd in run and pass yards given up I will take 4th in points allowed any day of the week

That happens, even Pitt, Vikings, have a weeks off. The last team that didn't have a week off on a game (not necessarily a pass rush) was the '72 Dolphins...I'll live with knowing the Niners are not perfect yet...

I swear...some people just want the whole f**king arm, a hand is not enough.

I'm not saying we need to get 5 sacks a game, I'm talking about at least getting some pressure on the QB. Against those teams I've posted above the pass rush completely disappeared and Ryan and McNabb were able to completely pick apart our secondary...that can't happen against the good teams..all I'm saying.

That's not really true.

McNabb was not sitting back and picking us apart, he was running around and picking us apart.

He scrambled for a touchdown because of pressure and he scrambled out of the pocket avoiding pressure and throw another touchdown.

Ryan has a pretty good line, but more importantly he has an awesome ability to step up and avoid the pass rush. He stays in the pocket until the last moment, I doubt he is ever thinking about running out of the pocket. We got plenty of hits on him, but he got rid of the ball (much like Kurt Warner does to us too).

Quarterbacks like them are the difference between a sack and seven points on the board. That's a big difference.

All the more amazing when you realize how many 3n'outs our offense provided our defense with.

On that note, the sacks stat might be a little misleading because I'm sure our defense has had to face more plays than most teams, therefore they had more opportunities.

I wonder how many sacks we average per pass attempt. That would be more telling.

lol everyone who wanted to help a "weak" pass rush and take Everette Brown at 10 instead of Crabtree=FAIL

not only did we skip brown ONCE, but again in the 2nd when he fell to our spot, and we got a 1st rounder from Carolina for the spot they took him in.

  • Info N/A
Over the past few days I have been reading a lot of quotes on how the 49ers pass rush isn't that good, we don't get pressure against .500 + teams, and that we only get pressure on the sorry teams. Now I'm not saying this is everyone but there are many who do follow this trend. I dvr every game and rewatch all the games multiple times. What I came to find is that only Five games this year the niners didn't bring a consistent rush, and only two of those teams made the playoffs. Also please excuse the first Seahawk game since Matty was rocked by Mr. Willis and the attack on #15 changed do to his odvious strength of being able to create offense with his feet. Those five games were:

Falcons, Texans, Titians (I believe), Packers, and Eagles.

We had some of are better games against two of the best teams in the league. Those two teams actually have a first round bye: Colts and Vikings.

Now some of you may disagree and you have that right, but if you recall from that Viking game the niners had Farve off point more then a few times and actually got in a few sacks and several hits. Against the Colts I believe we were the first team up until that point in the season to even bring Manning to the turf.

All I'm saying is that you are not top 5 or 10 in sacks for nothing. I guess Coach Harris paid off after all. NICE

Ha, i agree.

I doubt we add much to our pass rushing corps this offseason. Maybe a late to mid rounder on a OLB. That's about all we need.

Agreed. That's the more 'truthful' statistic.

this stat isnt accurate of our passrush or our defense.

REmember this fact...

We play the rams twice a year.
The whole thing will come together when we start moving the chains on offense. We must execute on offense. I am with others who think we need to be looking for some speed in the later rounds. We need a dynamic punt returner and if we can find one that can cover or sprint for the edge then that is best. First round O line and Safety. 2nd round its time to look for the talent. Best avaialable O-line, RB/PR, DB/PR, and WR/PR in that order. Same for the rest of the draft.
Sure we had a lot of sacks, but we lack that pass-rushing threat. We don't have that one guy that can consistently rush the quarterback.
