We are 6th in the league in points per game with an offense that puts us in terrible positions all the time. Alex throws a int in our own territory or we go 3 and out and give the other team good field position all the time but still our defense only allows the 6th least points.

Obviously our defense isnt perfect and our pass defense could use some help but all you glass half empty people saying our defense isnt legit and who constantly complain look at the most important stat. Points per game.

Our defense is close, we just need to address the following.

  • Passrush (brooks is ok, but what if its a one year wonder... like haralson)
  • Team speed, pick up some young DB's give all the starters a run for their money.
  • Mark Roman- He has made a few more plays this year than normal, but he is always the guy getting beat, missing an assignment, or falling down.

It just sucks that at critical times our D can't get off the field, that's why it seems like our D sucks

but they have done a good job overall

That is the same problem we have had the last 2-3 years. Our offense has way too many 3 and outs.

That leaves the defense tired in crunch time.

good teams

Cards 16
Cards 9
Colts 18

only 3 games versus good teams our D played good. As you see 2 versus division rival. A team we know very well. Didn't see the Colts game but to hear everyone talk on this board. Manning was just off but people open all day.

EDIT forgot to add the other good team. Philly 27

We need to get a consistent pass rusher, but we are 11th in the league in sacks.

bologna! Defense can't get themselves off the field. Have there been games where the offense help them get tired? Yes. The majority is the fact they can't get themselves off the field.

Not to mention the Seattle game in which the Niners defense couldn't get them off the field and pretty much sealed the deal on making the playoffs. The defense is solid but so far on the road they don't play the same. I think they are a middle of the pack defense.
I think our defense is very solid. We have to remember that the other team is playing too, so we're not going to get every 4th and 1 stop or intercept passes that we think our players should get. Lets give them some credit.

You have a good point but if you take it a little further...

Ten game Alex smith gave them the damn ball. (result.. Defense was put in a bad position.)

Hou- Defense played ok mostly (except TE coverage) Shaun Hill couldn't move the team, so it was 3 and out city. (again keeping the d on teh field)

GB- The D played bad, but I still blame the offense here.. especially that bad first half.

Yes but in the Seattle game Keith Smith gave up the ultimate play to lose the game and in no way should he have been on the field in that situation. May have been a personnel problem.

I agree, in a big situation you put in your 5th string db.. then decide to not give him safety help on that play?

this is how I see our D! At home, TOP 3 in the LEAGUE! AWAY BOTTOM 3 in the LEAGUE!

That's the main problem, no consistent pass rusher.

We'll do great against the weaker teams like Jags, Seattle, Rams, Lions..but what happened against the Eagles? Or against the Falcons? Those QB's had forever to throw the ball

A legit pass rusher is VERY important and no one has proved to be that yet, just look at the Cowboys vs. Saints game..Ware won that game for them..causing a fumble in such a crucial situation...That's exactly what we need

Tenn: I'll give you that. But only held them to one field goal out of the 3 turnovers in our own territory.

HOU: ok mostly? Thought you were talking about the most important stat? Poor argument too by the way. Only one score can even be considered because of a tired D. But that was 3rd series of the game. So I wouldn't use that. What you could have used was a muffed punt at our own 10.

GB scores on 5 or their 1st 6 possessions and you want to blame the offense?
