And secondly, some big physical OL. The OL stinks.
AND someone who can play with justin smith because that man does his job and needs help!

i like our front 3. ice is a monster -- he just doesn't have the numbers to say he is so good. it's not always about stats. and Franklin is also a monster.
however, they all got whooped today by philly's o-line.

Well, I have to agree....these are weak areas on this team, and let's not kid ourselves. There is quite a bit of mediocrity among the Niners' starters. That being said, every team has a few weak areas these days. Even the Colts and Saints do. My question to the Zoners is....what areas are absolutely critical to the team winning 3-4 more games next year?
The consensus appears to be that the team needs at least 2 new OLmen as well as a playmaking FS, a CB with speed, a 3rd down back, and a kick returner...at the very least.
I think with two first round picks and some FA money to spend, this team could make a run at the playoffs next year but in addition to an infusion of talent in the aforementioned positions, this team also needs better coaching and better game management as well. I think Sing is capable of improving in these areas.
I'm pleased with Manusky and his scheme and the QB coach Mike Johnson (and his work with Alex)... Rathman is a fine RB coach. Sing is still learning but is a good motivator. I don't think Raye has been the problem this year frankly.
To be blunt guys, the team simply needs more talent. Plain and simple...
A fair analysis, except I don't give Raye that much credit. Both the running plays and the pass patterns are very amateurish. A good HS team could diagnose the schemes he runs.
Even the excuse that he is working with "such young players" doesn't cut it with me. He has had a full TC and 14 league games, and the offense still lacks designs that set up one play with another. Each play seems to be a separate adventure.

I agree with both of you. And also, I think that Raye is a terrible situational playcaller. Down by 14 inside our 20 yard-line he goes with the WR screen. I don't know how often that has gotten us more than 5 yards, but I would say 1 out 10 times it does and 6 out of 10 gets us negative or 0 yards. Or like when it's 2nd & 14 and we run the ball. I really just don't understand it. Run a slant to get us 7-10 yards and give us a manageable 3rd down. If it was 2nd & 7, I'd be okay with a run, you know? These situational plays just seem to consistently be bad. It astonishes me he's an OC.

A good playcaller uses one play to set up another, or a series of plays. I try hard to see a pattern in Raye's play calling but I can't find it. It is like he has taken plays out of someone else's play book and using them without realizing he took them out of sequence.

NO to all three
Why not draft a QB?? It doesn't have to be a 1st or 2nd round pick.
But yes, no to the other 2. I am not impressed with this QB class, and who is there going to be for FA's...........Jamarcus Russell? Brady Quinn? Trent Edwards? NO THANKS. I'd take Alex any day of the week over those 3.

fans with realisitic expectations.
I know it's difficult to think about some times, but when they fired Mooch, brought in Donahoe and Erickson, we were at rock bottom. No one wanted to come here, and our decent players couldn't wait to catch the first train out of town. We were in salary cap hell from (Watch out Washington politicians you might want to here this) reckless spending by Eddy, Carmen, Clark etc., and at that point had no where to go but up.
What stupid organization would fire a coach who took them to the playoffs and bring in Dennis Erickson.
