Perhaps some Zoners who know more about o-line play can enlighten me on this topic.
It seems like the pass blocking improved when we started going to the spread. (I think it's 2 sacks in the last 3 games.) I was hearing that the passes were coming out quicker putting less stress on the linemen.
But now we seem to be seeing an improvement in the run blocking as well. It seems to me that by making teams respect our ability to pass, they are playing us more honestly opening up the run.
What do the experts think? Is it this, or a change in the blocking schemes, or what?

I think Chilo is starting to settled down a little and Bass seems to be better.

Spread out of the shotgun means the ball gets gone quicker, and those former OL screwups don't matter, because the ball is already gone. Why did it take 8 OCs and 7 yrs of bad HCs to figure that out? As for running the ball better...well, that's what happens when the passing game is working. The DL can't tee off on our QB, as they don't know if it's run or pass. When bigmike foolishly told the nfl we were gonna run it down their throats, guess what? They knew where the ball was going most every play. Now they don't. The theory is so simple it is maddening the coaches didn't get it until last 3 games.

Its alot of scheme. We cant block people straight up so they were pulling a lot of lineman to create running lanes. As far as the pass blocking improvement its because Alex is making quick reads and getting rid of the ball on time. Due to the spread he able to find his receivers quicker.

I too thought the line has been playing a lot better, then I sat down and watch the game over again partially in slow motion. The fact is the line is no better than it was when we sucked. The diffrence? Being in the shotgun Alex has a little more time to throw. Because we are actually able to move the ball in the air, teams are no longer stacking the box so Gore being Gore is able to make something out of nothing. I was most disappointed in what I saw out of Chilo this game. This kid was getting rag dolled by Dockett the whole first half. He is horrible. As some have said, the line is having trouble handling their man straight up so they have been doing a lot of pulling, then Gore finds the lane.
We really need a whole new line, save Heitman and Staley. IMO, even Staley isn't an elite LT and should be moved to the right. We can use the Panthers top draft pick to get our franchise left tackle.

we have slllloooowwwwllllllyyyyy progressed from one of the 2 or 3 worst OL to a little better and Monday's game was this lines ceiling.
Baas is extremely inconsistent, he's a FA, he needs to walk
Rachal wasn't and still probably isn't ready to start but is worth giving some time
Snyder is a piece of crap
Heitman is solid
Staley is very good we need him back i don't care how well Sims is playing.

Bass and Chilo are starting to get that mean streak going. Heitmann has always been a consistent beast. The O-line is doing so much better surprisingly without Staley. With Staley coming back next week, Im wondering if Snyder will stay at RT or maybe get replaced by Sims. I dont think it would be a good idea to reshuffle the line like that so theyll probably just leave Snyder there.
