Battle has been a great 49er, but I think the sun is about to set on his career with the team. I really don't think he adds any value to the team right now.

Why all the Battle hate? Whose roster spot is he taking?

The guy has been a warrior for this team during some of the worst years of this franchise. He has played through injury and done everything he was asked to do.

True, he may not be around next year as he has a fair degree of arthritic progession in his knee but he still works hard on ST and is an excellent locker room presence and well respected by teammates.

Again, what future HOFer is he keeping off the roster by staying?

Rossum, could have been sheets's spot, or maybe brooks would have been on the roster sooner.. who knows.

That's just it. It is all speculation, though Sheets was totally unimpressive as a return guy.

The truth is, the coaches made a decision that the rest of the league re-affirmed by not signing him. With all the injuries at this time of the year, a quality return guy wouldn't last 30 minutes on the waiver wire. Rossum had nothing to offer.
