I would think the NFL would shy away from sending us. If you want to attract more fans in Europe, you either need star power (player recognition by fans) or a dynamic offense to keep the crowds tuned in. OR you could go with bright colors/logos to attract the younger generation (ala Jags/Bucs).
Unless we get BOTH TO and Reggie Bush in here, I just dont see it happening, although I bet the stadium would be louder with Soccer fans' than it the Stick is with Niner fans.

What if its our home game against the Saints
I don't see Singletary liking this idea of a 12 hour flight even with a bye week following. If Jed York is setting this up I think it is greeting and not putting his team in a great position to win.

I thought only east coast teams went to England to play? England is half the world away from San Fran.

And I say this as a massive, UK based 49ers fan, I hate this idea, absolutely hate it. I've been to 2 of the 3 games here.
There's NO homefield advantage.
You get about a 50/50 split as we found out in the first two games (NYG/MIA and NOR/SD) and last year the Bucs had less fans for a home game than the Patriots.
Only about 20-30k of the fans at the game actually understand FULLY what's going on.
Most people see it as a day out on the beer and end up spending half the game doing "The Wave" whilst the Home Team are in Offense.
It absolutely sucks. I hate the idea. The only way I buy into this is if all 32 teams play 1 game on neutral soil each per season. I would personally rather fly all the way t San Francisco to see the team I've supported since being a little boy than have to spend the afternoon next to a load of boozed up Brits with no idea with what is going on.
Sad times.

I guess the coverage could be nice, but I really don't like the idea of losing a home game.

MM in response to me on Twitter:

MattMaiocco @BrianDavisRFC @stupac3uk When 49ers went to Mexico City, the Cardinals gave up a home game. John York is chair of NFL Int'l Committee.

While it might be fun for you Brian, I think its a dumb move from Jed York. And I don't see Singletary being to pleased about travel like that either.

I'm not sure if I am for or against this. It would give some exposure, but may hurt our guys having to travel that far away.

That is like playing on the East Coast times a thousand. This would be terrible for our organization. I know they'd schedule it before we get the bye but still.
Has a West Coast team ever played in the UK??

Actually, the 49ers have a larger international fanbase than some people think (we're still pretty huge in Japan/UK in fact).
-My half-brother is stationed over in the UK and he's been telling me that Channel 4 (UK's sports authority, who also showed lots of love for us in the 80's and 90's) has had Issac Bruce and other 49er players on there a lot lately, covering the fundamentals of the NFL/49er history.
Cause as it actually stands right now, the 3 most popular/notable NFL teams over in the UK right now (and probably since the 80's) are the Dolphins (specially since a lot of UK royalty vacation in Miami), 49ers, and Bears.
