Balmer still has time to develop into a nice player for us.
yeah and its not like he sucks when he is playing. In his playing time he has done a fine job and usually you don't hear his name which is a good thing. Give him time, he was considered a raw prospect and he is still developing.
Maiocco says our guys on the line are playing good and that's why Balmer isn't getting a lot of PT. Oh well we just have to wait

He'll develop into an incredible player in his contract year, great. The point for me is we needed a wr and could have used Desean day one as a WR/PR/KR instead of waiting 3-4 years for a "raw" talent. I guess well find out in 2012 if he worthy.

Balmer has been playing very well in the past six games or so. He hasn't been getting a LOT of playing time because the starting three have played so very well but losing him out of the rotation is NOT a good thing.
this! when are people going to realize that Balmer was drafted knowing he was going to need 2-3 years to develope but has lots of potential? DL take a while to develope. the DL really came together this year and played very very well. even though balmer is not going to crack the lineup anytime soon it's important that he gets playing time and offseason work this is terrible.

It's a shame, I feel he was coming on as he made a couple of plays in the Green Bay game and the Jax game where I thought man I can see something in this kid. He is still raw and could of used some valuable PT down the stretch but I think he will be a very good player and contributer next year.
Remember he is the kind of guy who won't show up much in the stat sheet and remember he only started one year at UNC so he was a bit of a project but I think he will be a good, solid player for us.
Project players are why Nolan is no longer around!
He left us with a roster full of projects!

Let's look at some facts about Balmer:
He was drafted just about the place most draft pundits projected. Several said if he had stayed in school another year he might have been a top 10 pick.
AT THE TIME, Aubrayo Franklin was struggling and there was no one else who could fill the role of a NT/DT on the team, so, Balmer was the pick. All the talk about Jackson is hindsight. The reason he fell as far as he did was because every team in the league had concerns about his size and character. The 49ers were not the only team to pass on him.
So to bring it current, Franklin turns into one of the very best NTs in the league, Sopoaga is finally thriving in Singletary/Manusky's new scheme, and Justin Smith is having a very good year. That leaves Balmer with limited PT, however, when he has been in the game, he has played very well. As someone else noted, THERE IS NO DROP OFF when he comes in for Franklin or Sop. That should be all anyone needs to know about him. He WAS a project but now he can replace anyone on one of the best 3-4 defensive lines in the league, WITH NO DROPOFF, and that in his second year. 'nuff said.
As I said above, losing Balmer out of the rotation is BAD news.

Do you read any of Maiocco or Barrows articles that mention Balmer, or any of the other posts that have noted his specific play?
To repeat, it has been noted by professional observers that when he comes in to give a break for a DL that is now considered one of the top 5 in the league, THERE IS NO DROP OFF. If that means he is a bust to you, then you need to watch more football.

Most people in the zone see him as a bust because he does not have 10+ sacks.

Most people in the Zone don't know much about football and are miserable people.
