Takeo Spikes Interview and other Nuggets

For all those who listen to Sirius NFL radio Pat Kirwan and Ross Tucker (who called our game on Sunday) had Takeo on the show earlier. Here are some nuggets and recap-

-Pat asked Takeo to pinpoint what went wrong vs Seattle
Takeo first response was the refs or officiating. That was kind of surprising. Still he said we made mistakes anyway.

-Pat asked him if the team still feels like we can make the playoffs
Takeo without saying it indicated no. That's right he said we're not focused on it and his tone sounded like it's not a thought. Then he got PC and said they're only thinking about zona. Said we don't control what happens anymore since we lost to Sea. This loss to Sea has even taken the wind out of the players sails.
So basically he said everyone's given up?

Sounded like it. Like the loss to Seattle just killed everything. Well it did.

Say it aint so Takeo...say it aint so...
After the interview was over Ross and Pat discussed the game

-Agreed that Alex is well on his way to being the leader of this team. Takeo mentioned that he went up to Alex yesterday and commended him for being strong and continuing to try to be our QB. He admired that Alex never used any excuses about coordinators or injuries.

-Pat said Alex needs to stop playing like "am I good enough to play QB" and just be the leader. But that we are still not there yet as a playoff caliber team. But Alex taking the reins is the first start.

-Ross explained the reason why we called a TO before the first play of the game. He said that all week the plan was for Brooks to start over Lawson but when we ran out to the field both Ahmad and Manny stood on the sidelines confused as to who should go out. Singletary had only 10 guys on the field.

Another time on our second series on offense we ran another play with only 10 guys on the field.

Well it sounds like we're going to get killed on MNF. Like AZ is coming in here expecting and trying to clinch the NFC west, and these guys all have their tails between their legs. This is going to suck balls.
To cap it off both Ross and Pat acknowledged what we all know already that Singletary is learning on the job being a head coach is harder than people think.

Takeo still likes Singletary by his answer about him. Said he reminds him of his Dad. Question is how does everyone else feel about Singletary. I have feeling that most of the team feels the same way. I don't see Singletary going anywhere

Why not, the fans gave up.

Remember the question was about the playoffs not Arizona. Takeo took a gasp of air before he answered that question.
Spikes is smart to know that the season is over but just didn't say it.

ya, that's what I'm afraid of. Sing said in his press talk that he wanted the nation to see that things were happining here on monday night, but if the team has already cashed it in I'm afraid the only players we might see still fighting are Willis, and Alex. PEACE FROM THE FAN

I was hoping we'd put on a good show for MNF but it sounds like its packed in.

Oh well..maybe if our team would grow up and learn to win close games we'd be damn near undefeated.
This team better not mail it in on MNF. If it does, that raises serious questions about Sings leadership.

Wow good stuff man.

And I agree with him on this one. I also think that Alex will act like the guy to when we finally have a stable off-season. If he continues this level of play he will be the unquestioned starter going into next season. No wasted reps during the off-season. THAT helps with confidence IMO. No more BS QB competition.
I think Takeo gave that reaction to the playoff question because he has never been to the playoffs in his career. Apart from that the rest of the team is probably as tired as we are as fans of meaningless games in December.

Last year Sing created a spark for the late surge. Where's the spark going to come from this year? Our players are only human and it's human nature to feel like giving up even though they're professionals and get paid. Football for the real player is not about the money. It's about winning.

They're not going to lay down for Arizona or anyone else. Takeo said he knows the world is watching on Monday. But you can tell in his voice he winced at the playoff question. There's still pride involved.
