Don’t blame Singletary, don’t blame A. Smith, and don’t blame play calling. The bottom line is you DECREASE the probability of a victory significantly with fumbles and dropped TD passes. Yes, penalty flags stall or kill drives, but they can be overcome if they are not committed excessively. However, fumbles (F. Gore) and dropped TD passes (D. Walker & V. Davis) are what distinguish the elite players from the mediocre ones. Teams/players who do not commit these mistakes maintain control of their momentum, the most important variable in winning NFL games. So, please, 9er fans, the game was lost primarily due to the individual players who committed these mistakes and not those mentioned in the first sentence.
