spread offense should be our full time offense going forward, that was the positive. Also we need another legyt RB on this team better suited for the spread, Joe McKnight would be great in the later rounds.

I'm tired of the O.C calling 25 yard plays when we need 4.
GO back and look at a lot of the niners 3rd and shorts..
The wr's run like 15 yards before they make their break into their routes.. Qb has no time, and nobody short.. so they throw it away, get sacked or worse.

You could have made a similar thread at this time last year, and the year before, and the year before that.
The point is that we have been a "young team on the brink of playoff contention" since 2006. After 8 years of missing the playoffs, this is NOT good enough. We cannot go into every offseason with this warm fuzzy feeling that we "can" be great the following year. We need to have answers NOW so that we ARE great come 2010.
Whether that equates to coaching changes, aggressive free agent acquisitions, or putting front management on the hot seat remains to be seen.
The last thing we need, however, is our fanbase to be content with whats going on in this organization.

I agree. OUr Defense played well today. So did the offense. Let's face it we lost this game on two bonehead plays. 1) Fumbling a handoff on reverse? Seriously that was elementary. 2) Frank Gore fighting for an extra inch.
I feel like I'm going to throw up and pass out all at the same time after today. We completely outplayed the hawks in my mind and once again found a way to loose a football game.
Maybe I'm just going crazy but I feel like this is a better football team. I am more and more convinced that alex smith is capable of being our QB. To be honest I feel as if the offense and defense are basically set at most positions. The only area of glaring need is the Offensive line. We have clearly figured out how to pass protect. However we also clearly can't run the ball despite having frank gore.
I don't want to make excuses but Let's face it. We've changed our style of play and our personnel dramatically since the start of the season. I'm trying to envision this offense in its second year with Alex and the receivers really having things down. I feel like this group will only get better. Same for the Defense.
I guess for me the bottom line is that we just need to find a way to learn how to just WIN. I think Singletary is the guy to do it. I think Raye has earned another season. With an entire off season to gel next year and the chance to upgrade significantly through the draft I feel like we are in good shape.
The truth is Kurt W. is running out of steam and so is Hasselbeck. We are capable of winning the west now and we will be more so next year.
The saddest thing here is that I feel like that's all we have to look forward to again. I don't think I can even bring myself to watch the Vikings and Cards tonight. I'll still watch every game this year and who knows maybe we'll find a way to get to 8-8 or even 9-7. But Hope is the official method for the season now.

Highly agree were out coached here.
Out coached and out played.
Positives: Alex played a pretty good game. As far as everything esle. Horrible game against an awfully weak team.

Maybe we need to finally build one year. We have had major shake ups every single off season for the entire playoff drought. I do agree with your point about finding answers now. This team needs to start finding ways to win games instead of discovering new ways to loose them every week. You are correct to be tired of the way we play. For all the positives today the bottom line is that we muffed a hand off on a reverse punt return that was not under duress and that the mighty Frank Gore coughed up a ball fighting for inches. It just seems like there are a few plays like this every game. You are right these plays are not excuses for losing. They are reasons and they need to stop. I will close with this though. I don't think we "can" be great next year. I think we SHOULD be good this year. I think we SHOULD be great next year. That needs to start next week vs. the Cardinals.
