Norv Turner did, Sullivan did not.
I saw that too and thought the same thing. It really made me miss our old OL coach Bob McKittrick, they guy could meld lineman, REAL lineman, out of thin air, from nothingness. We really need someone on our offensive staff that is that good, whether it's a QB coach, WR's, RB's, whatever.

Point taken on Sully. I wonder why Raye kept him..........wait..........nevermind.
I'm very satisfied with the linebacking and defensive line coaching on our team... not so much the pass-rushing though.

Last night during the Saints game, the announcers opined that Curtis Johnson of the Saints was the finest WR coach in the NFL. When I checked his record and compared it to our Jerry Sullivan, I was flabbergasted that there could be such a huge disparity in results and performance. As the Saints WR coach he has developed: Devery Henderson, Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Robert Meacham. While coaching at the U of Miami and San Diego St., he was responsible for the development of: Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Yatil Green and Darnay Scott. Bio

Sullivan's references on the Niner Bio are David Boston and Anquan Boldin. That's it, with not one Niners receiver mentioned in his four year stint. Amazing.
Sully Bio

The moral of the story, great position coaches are worth their weight in gold. Just look at what Mike Johnson has done with Alex, no accident.

we need an upgrade at OL coaches ! nuf said !
Sullivan is a terrible WR coach, I have no idea how he still has his job, he will f**k up Crabtree, Morgan, and Hill if he is allowed to stay.

So true. I'm sure his coaching influenced Boldin just as much as it did Crabtree.
Having a good QB coach is helping Smith, he has improved in almost every aspect of his game. If only we had an O line coach worth a f**k.

I do remember after Martz was hired that he wanted to keep Sullivan on the staff . . . for what it's worth.
Maybe one of the reasons so many OC's turned down the job is because some of the coaches(Sullivan) came with the job?

Moore, Meachem, Henderson....all names that have ZERO combined PB's.

Sully has Herman Moore, Tony Martin, Germaine Crowell, David Boston and Anthony Miller to his credentials. You failed to mention those guys, maybe you are too young to know who they were. Sully also has has Rasheed Marshall, Marcus Maxwell, Brandon Williams etc. to work with. And where are those guys now ? Can't exactly blame Sully for not being able to turn water into wine, that would actually fall on the person/s who have given him water to turn into wine and not grapes.

Anquan Boldin's opinion > Your's.

Just saying.

I doubt it. Hostler, Martz, and Raye were IMO desperation hires. And if that's the case, I'm willing to bet the the 49er front office would have done what it takes to lure in better OCs
I was thinking, once Tom Cable's fired as Raiders head coach, maybe we should grab him for our OL? They had one of the best OL's in the NFL when he was their coach...?
I think Sullivan is fine. We need a new o-line coach and new defensive backs coach and a new defensive coordinator. I'm not really a fan of Manusky.

Hey, look , Dave, i am with you all the way on the ineptitude of our WR coach. He has not been good enough to keep 4 yrs. Nor even 2. But he is not our worst position coach. That prize is all locked up by our OL coach, if you can call him that. Never has a specialty coach performed as poorly as our OL coach. And those are 2 guys who have no business being here next yr. (my opinion only).

Amen to both of you. In complete agreeement.

I agree with that also...

Hmmm...Harris Barton, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lot...DO you think young Jed has their numbers on his speed dial?? Man that would be off the charts. I think the need's to get back and re-discover it's roots. Glad to see Dwight Clark back in the mix.
