Not that Nate Davis is our future, but I pray to God that Singletary does the stand up thing and allows him to compete for the job.
Yes yes, lets give a QB with a learning disability a chance to start in the middle of the season. Than lets put this QB in with a beat up oline, a lack of a running game, and little consistency of any kind with play calling or receivers making plays. Great choice. That would work great towards putting him in a position to be successful. Great message to send to the lockeroom that your giving up this season. Good thing knee jerk reactions doesn't run the NFL or our team. I mean man you think that our offense is boring and conservative now? What do you think would happen when we use a rookie QB who doesn't have a complete grasp of the playbook? Our already vanilla offense would become a Tofu offense. Come on man. This isn't madden. Its dumb to start Davis this season.
thank you!

Yeah....well life's not fair and it's clear the Niners as an organization have little to no faith in Hill....I don't even think he'll be back as a #2...If nate can progress in the offseason he should be the back up....Cheers....the bitter beer Face starship has crashed and burned....
wasn't he 3-3....with wins coming against the cardinals and the s**tty rams and seahawks....You need more than heart to make at this level....You also need the TOOLS.

I disagree, all season long he missed easy throws, threw at wr's feet, ran into his own OLinemen adn took sacks that shouldnt have been sacks.
Every Td pass he threw to vd, was so ugly, it was a milisecond from being an INT. Vd had to adjust on every td pass he caught from Hill..
Not only that, but hill got worse as he played more games, he missed more throws, got sacked in more retarded fashion, and started looking frantic and lost.
He looked like a 4th string qb.
Good thing Smith changed all that........
Troll.

What happens if we shift more to a spread offense? Will Shaun Hill remain a 49er?

There are a few things going against Hill as the season progresses. The O-line isn't very good, Hill is slow of feet, his passes down field give defenders enough time to recover whatever window that was there.

Our team was set up for failure with that o-line. Tom Brady or peyton couldnt even be succesful behind it.

If you mean "would" Shaun still be the starter if we did open it up earlier in the season....then Yes, I believe he would be.....I believe the games he was allowed to play in a more spread offense this year...he has helped the team drive down the field for key points.
but that doesn't matter now.

If we had a dominat Running game ( see Tennesee 2008) then Shaun would be OK ( as was Kerry Collins), yet we DO NOT have and did not have a domint running game.
When teams stack the box you have to be able to make them pay, ( see pass, deep), Shaun did nit have the arm strength to do that.
Not to be mistaken I like Shaun and I think he's done a great job as the starter, yet his inability to throw a quick deep ball was his downfall.
I personally think Shaun would be brilliant in a Bill Walsh offence, unfortunately he's not suited for a vertical passing game.

Yes, totally agree. It was painful watching Hill play his last 6 quarters. There have been a lot of backups, like Huard on the Chiefs, who come in as a stopgap and play decent. But, the backups aren't able to have this success long term. Hill's arm was too limited to consistent. At least Smith has NFL strength so he can at least attempt all the necessary throws.

Even that baby can figure how to drop back from under Center within 5 years. Too bad Alex can't.
