First of all had the 49ers not challenged the spot they still would have called the timeout with 2:32 remaining. So the packers still would have lined up and they would have ran the qb sneak and the 49ers would have still had their one challenge flag left in Sing's back pocket, BUT they would not have been able to challenge the fumble becasue they had NO TIMEOUTS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!

So by challenging the call they simply gave themselves a chance to kill to birds with one stone. Had the correct call been made on the challenge the ball would have been moved back to just inside the 50 yd line on the niners side, not where it was origanlly placed which was 2 feet closer just outside the niners 49 yd line. thus the qb sneak would have been stopped and the clock then would have stopped at the 2 min warning and the packers would have to decide if they want to punt or do they wanna go for it on 4th down. Unfortunately the refs didnt move the ball back and rodgers was able to sneak it far enough for the first down.

Now the 49ers ended up with the ball at the end of the qb sneak play claiming rodgers fumbled. But we couldnt challenge that he fumbled becasue we had no challenges left. And if we hadnt challenged the play prior WE STILL WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CHALLENGE THE FUMBLE BECAUSE WE STILL WOULD HAVE CALLED THE TIMEOUT WITH 2:32 AND THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN OUR LAST TIMEOUT!!!!! Even if we hadnt called the timeout or used our challenge we wouldnt have been able to challenge the "fumble" because the packers would have ran the clock down to the 2 min warning before they tried the sneak.

so what sing did by challanging the spot was brilliant. Had the correct call been made then the 49ers are not charged a timeout and the ball is moved back 2+ feet and the qb sneak doesnt work. we call a timeout with abotu 2:20 on the clock and packers either gamble on a 4th down and go for it or they punt the ball and we have 2 mins to try to get the TD. Its that simple.

Good analysis. Thanks.
Bad attitude. No thanks.

what bad attitude. because im tired of seeing people run their mouths when they have no idea what they are talking about. i love how some of the people in here think they could coach the 49ers when they couldnt even coach a flag football game.

to the others who responded about my post thanks!!!

While not everyone is a certified football genius such as yourself, assuming that others lack all football knowledge and should not be allowed to watch the game is a bit much.

Good luck to you. And good day.

Well considering you don't know the challenge rule maybe you shouldn't talk bad about other people...

Good post. Also they replayed the "supposed" fumble on tv and there was no evidence that he even fumbled. If you couldn't see the fumble in the replay then the call on the field could not be overturned.

Bottom line is, people on here want to complain and blame Sing for everything even if they don't have a vaild argument.

looks like mckillop pulled it away from him when aaron rodgers went for the first down on the second effort with a little assistance from his fb. rodgers definitely wasnt downed by contact

and what was it i said that is wrong about the challenging system???
Sing made the absolutely right call. In basically every way you look at it, it was the perfect call. There's three scenarios.

1: He challenges. If he wins, he keeps the timeout, but burns it ANYWAYS because the clock was running. The defense still has to make a stop, and we are unable to challenge the 3rd down play because we just used our last time out..

2: He doesn't challenge. Well.. the clock is still running, and to conserve time we'd call a timeout. The defense STILL has to make a stop, and with the burned timeout, we'd still be unable to challenge since it's outside two minutes.

3: He lets the clock run all the way to the 2 minute warning, keeping the timeout. Clock is burned, and our defense still has to make a stop or we lose. Now in this scenario, with the play being inside two minutes it would be an official review, which there is no guarantee we'll even get. And if we did this and DID get a review, I seriously doubt we'd get the call our way.

You don't challenge the spot, you challenge whether it is a first down or not, so even if the refs would have moved the ball back to where it should have been, we would still have lost the challenge thereby having the TO taken from us.

Also if you win those kinds of challenges I am pretty sure it does not stop the clock.

you can challenge the spot of the ball and had they made the right call then they move it back a couple feet, and i also believe that they start the clock once the ball is set but i do believe that they only allot the offense with 25 secs so they wouldnt have been able to run it to the 2 min warning. but either way it was still the correct call to make at the time. so all the people who are bashing sing have no reason to and they are wrong for doing so!!!!!!!!!

This should end the debate.

It was absolutely the right challenge at that spot.

Yes obviously you can challenge the spot of the ball, but to win the challenge the call on the play has to be overturned in this case the call was no first down for the packers. We were basicly challenging that the packers got a first down. In that situation where we challenged we would lose the timeout even if they had respotted the ball.

I don't know I still feel like letting it run down to 2 minutes would be the best thing to do, since you gain the chance of challenging if something like I don't know a fumble on a qb sneak occurs, or they pass it a la the patriots. And you only lose like 10 seconds by letting it run down to the two minute warning.
