This didnt solve a mystery, this posted the statistics. I now know how many times he was targeted and the success rate, we dont know why he is targeted less. Is it Kap, is it the game plan, more blocking, etc. That is the damn mystery.

I'm just concerned about the run game being ineffective since Kendall Hunter went down

Kap-to-Moss 15/30, 199 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. QB Rating of 54.8
with Moss, those are mostly overthrows on very deep passes or short passes thrown way too hard. Collin still has work to do in those areas.
I agree that Kap has to work on his timing on the deep ball and lean to put a little more touch on the ball in some situations, this will help with the deep and intermediate routs.
That being said that fact that after 6+ years Smith's numbers are at an almost pro bowl level yet are still comparable to a second year player, first year starter who didn't get starting reps through 2 training camps and half a season shows that KAp is the better choice going forward.
Just wait until Kap gets an off season as the starter... He is going to kill it next year.

He missed Moss a few times on fade routes in the endzone too where Kaep needs to throw it up and let Moss jump for it. I'm pretty sure they'll get that fixed.

Execution was the biggest difference...we always BALL on Monday nights; play up to the spot light (esp. Aldon Smith).
As to the game plan, Kaep's stat line was right in line with yards, 243 for the game and we came out passing as always and added more runs in the 2nd half. Good yardage on first downs, TD's typically come from this down and 3rd downs with mixed passes/runs for TD's.
The one thing that stood out to me was the game plan (Kaep talked about this in the post game) to attack the cover 2 deep and the obvious play calling to get VD in single coverage and hit him early and often. The Bears had no answer for that one. It produced big yards, TD's and helped Kaep get into a really nice rhythm that he capitalized on and also complimented our running game.
Game plan was very similar in that the passing game was typically designed to get a primary receiver open and spread the ball around. Kaep rarely had to make more than one read but did well when he did have to ad lib. This was the best collective effort I've seen from the WR's getting off the LOS too, the OC game plan (attack deep on a team focused on stopping the run as evidenced by constant 8-10 in the box) and the pass protection was outstanding esp. compared to last week. I was very impressed by Kaep's ability to check to the correct pre snap read and the play designs were stellar to get the primary receiver open (and they were). Collective team win! Loved CK's poise and class and his future.
VD targets:
1st Half:
Single coverage: 2nd and 9 at SF 42 L.Davis reported in as eligible. C.Kaepernick pass deep left to V.Davis pushed ob at CHI 36 for 22 yards (M.Wright). Caught at SF 37. 1-yd YAC
Single coverage: 2nd and 9 at CHI 35. C.Kaepernick pass short right to V.Davis to CHI 23 for 12 yards (C.Tillman, L.Briggs). Caught at CHI 27. 4-yds YAC
Triple coverage was beat (overthrown into the EZ): 3rd and 1 at CHI 14. C. Kaepernick pass incomplete short right to V.Davis.
Single coverage: 1st and 3 at CHI 3. C.Kaepernick pass short right to V.Davis for 3 yards,TOUCHDOWN
Single coverage: 2nd and 3 at SF 36. (Shotgun) C.Kaepernick pass deep left to V.Davis to CHI 32 for 32 yards (C.Conte). Caught at CHI 45. 13-yds YAC
Single coverage: 1st and 10 at SF 38. (Shotgun) C.Kaepernick pass short left to V.Davis to SF 41 for 3 yards (L.Briggs). Caught at SF 41. 0-yds YAC
2nd Half:
Single coverage: 2nd and 2 at SF 24. C.Kaepernick pass incomplete deep left to V.Davis.
Single coverage: 3rd and 12 at CHI 25. (Shotgun) C.Kaepernick pass short middle to V.Davis to CHI 14 for 11 yards (M.Wright). Caught at CHI 14. 0-yds YAC
And for the record, the most passes a receiver has caught in one game all year was 7. VD had 8 targets and 7 catches. Props to Roman for generating play calls to get our best receiver in single coverage all night long and to CK for hitting him early and often!
Game plan! I quoted this older post to show you VD was game planned in the Chicago game to get the ball early and often and in single coverage - he was moved around a lot too. And the result ended in TD's and loosening up the defense and getting he and CK7 in a nice rhythm that lead to an easy blow out of which we only needed to target him twice in the 2nd half and ran Gore more to end the game.
There is absolutely no reason we can't get creative with VD again and get him involved early and often as most likely the Packers will be bringing up their S's (esp. C.Woodson) in the box to stop the run (8+) and they will most likely be keying in more on Crabtree and being very physical with him at the LOS (ala the Giants, Hawks, Vikings, etc.) to take him out of the game.
The GAME PLAN is the key to the W this week - 90% and 10% execution b/c the plays will be there.

No mystery...game planning and QB preference. http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/168371-vernon-davis-needs-ball/page12/
A TE is usually a QB's best friend...it was for Alex but right now, CK7 is more comfortable with Crabtree.

Best nickname ever!
It's not a mystery, more of just a coincidence. Rewatched the AZ and Pats games allot, and they definitely had plays going to Davis... But something always happens, either an overthrow, VD dropped a couple, or the pass gets completed out of bounds.
It'll work itself out, especially with crabs lighting up the cards, if they want to roll coverage to VD Kap has shown he will make them pay by hitting Crabs. When kap said "he's always open" he wasn't lying.

Nice knowing we have a dominant TE in Vernon Davis, but if his production going down means other offensive players getting involved then so be it. That's a good thing. Distributing the ball to all players. It's a TEAM game. Kaepernick spreads the ball out and throws it to the open player.

Vernon's numbers started dipping three games prior to Kaep though.

I don't think it's a mystery. Kaepernick sees the field very well and throws to guys who are open. Crabtree is better at getting open than Davis is. Walker is open because they're doubling up on Davis. Davis hasn't been open that often and they just haven't been able to connect. That will change. Kaepernick will make another long attempt to Davis just like he does almost every game and one of these throws is going to connect.
