Wow...either Davis and Smith are selling high on their homes or they see the writing on the wall after this year. On the positive side, both are asking considerably more than they purchased their homes. However, if Davis has a chronic back problem he will be playing elsewhere.

give him a chance to do what again exactly? be faster than those around him?
I have grown tired of his hands, route running and running after the catch never changing
dude is frustrating as hell to watch play lol

I was pretty sure Baalke planned on keeping him around.. especially given the lack of depth at TE in the draft this year. Perhaps not. J.Cameron wants out of CLE - I'd love to see him in SF.

I wonder if this has anything to do with San Jose restricting their cops from working for 49ers security. maybe they want to live somewhere that still has officers on the payroll?

Is hard to say, yes Baalke did say he wanted to keep Vernon, but that's what all GMs say when they are about to trade somebody.
But, let's just say Baalke might want to keep Vernon, he may still low-ball him to re-negotiate his contract, same goes with Justin Smith. These guys have been around the block, they know this is a business plus given the current coaching staff debacle there really isn't much rationale for them to want to stay with the 9ers. Let's face it, the chances are the 9ers are not going to win another Super Bowl at least in the immediate future under Jim Tomsula.
It takes time to sell a house, might as well start the ball rolling just in case things don't work out.

Both are in the final year of their contracts, right? Maybe they have the same financial advisor.
I think it's more likely about the money, but on the same vein as the cop theory, maybe the org is taking a harder stance on off-the-field activities. Not necessarily telling guys where to live, but telling them that they aren't going to pay a premium to have private security cover everyone, everywhere, and at any time. That might help in the decision between a nice crib and a party crib. Or having a nice night on the town versus going wild.

i really hope this doesn't mean that we are trading him, or releasing him.
VD is one of the greats, and is still a freak on the field, He's one of the few i'd like to see retire a 49er.

Got zero production from vern last year. Should have been on ir. $6M? $7M? Nope. Still an adventure to catch the ball.

This year should be it for Vernon as a Niner. Seems to have lost a step and his desire to play.

Atfer playing in the league as many years as he has, and he still can't make routine catches, see first TD against Dallas, Im not really sure what to do with him. If he's lost a step, and the desire to play then I would think we would have to move on. But, if he was hurt, and that was the only problem, then extend him two years, giving him three, and see where he's at after that.

he had a off year, injury, distractions, drama within the team? you pick one. he has enough capitol , in my opinion with me,, to pass it off as a rare bad year. besides we have no one on the roster as good as he is. give him a break

Agree he needs to really bounce back next season or that could be it.
