I know that Walsh said that or something similar, but I do not think that was his motto.

It wasn't a motto, but it was a practice that continued after Walsh left.

The point being that the claim it was Walsh's motto was not accurate.

In addition, I do not see any connection between that saying or practice and Vernon Davis's holdout.

i actually think with our team, with our offense, with our philosophy, we sort of do need someone like him to win a title. if your theory is correct about tight ends not being as vital as they were in the ted kwalik days,, our team may be an exception. now if you have full confidence in roman to run crazy three or four wide out sets making the tight end obsolete in both run blocking and pass catching,

You can't prove the bolded. When you have a VD you have to take advantage, but that don't mean they can't make someone else become the focal point if we lose VD.

He isn't as crucial as you make it seem.
fine,, and you can not prove we can just plug someone else in and we will be fine,, you can not prove we will be ok with vance, you can not prove jon baldwin can be turned into a tight end and we will be fine.just as you can not prove the other vernon hating talking points that have been circulating
he is soft
he is scared
he fades in big games
etc etc
i shudder to think what may happen if someone dares comes on here and says with the weapons we have on offense, we can dump ck and just plug gabbert in there and we will be fine. you people act like dumping vernon would be a minor thing to our offense

Are you now claiming that one of specialists Harbaugh brought in to work with Davis is an oncologist?

now vernon is a cancer. wow. a cancer is someone who upsets the locker room, creates divide and division, sort of like young vs montana with the great bill walsh as the enabler. vernon wanting more money is not a cancer to the team. you are really reaching

Granted this past post season wasn't big for him catches wise, he did catch 2 for TDs.
Also, the previous 2 post seasons he was absolutely huge.

reaching nothing...he started this awhile back..now it's creeping back in.

No one thought TO was a cancer in the begining
I think this maybe a bit overblown. I'm sure he wants a new contract, but he maybe holding out just to extend his off season or explore other ventures that are making him more money than he gets paid for being in camp. Only time will tell tho...

just because he wants an extension or a pay hike, he is a cancer. and now you use TO to support your claim. i will give you credit, you certainly connect the dots in a unique way. when he comes back he will be accepted back into the fold , despite what you think or act like you are hoping for

everyone on the team wants an extension and a pay raise...does the whole team miss mandatory camps ?

if those guys prove they can do the job, i am fine with it. have those three you mentioned shown they can replace gore or hunter? my issue with this whole vernon thing is people who are willing to get rid of vernon due to this "tiff' and give the keys to vance or make jon baldwin a tight end . that is NOT what smart organizations do.

yeah but what im saying is sometimes you dont get that chance to make sure the players replacing your proven plays are capable, and i could see a pure psychological meltdown on the zone (especially you bud) if say hyde and lattimore have to take over for gore next season but only get as many carries as lmj this season.

thats why i said im not gunna panic unless this "holdout" goes deep into training camp. Then we may actually have a situation worth being concerned about.

specialists?

Walsh's motto?

cancer?

everyone on the team--all 89 of the players on the roster today?

please.

Davis has missed voluntary workouts and three days of mandatory mini camp. Nothing more, Nothing less.

I think Davis is making a mistake. Nothing more, nothing less.

Your assertions are almost funny.

buck said nothing wrong. and the wolf had a good thought about not getting shook up about this unless it runs deep into camp. i am almost glad that camp is over and we have a month break to let this thing cool down. maybe it boils down to the fact i just do not have any confidence vance can step in for vernon nor do i have any confidence our tight end coach can actually develop a tight end. on the other hand even though i have never seen them play i am really confident that one or both of our untested young running backs along with hunter can take gores job next year and we will not skip a beat at all. plus as i said,, the real thing that has irritated me is all of the stuff that has been invented about vernon since this whole thing began from,, him being scared cuz we signed stevie to this latest cancer blather. i am upset he is not honoring his contract but for gods sake the tearing down of his play and now his status as a team mate is being thrown out there
