Yeah man I am with you, he should be able to block for himself and get open to make the catches and also be able to tackle the guys running free through the secondary...man what a lame ass!

We need someone with the mentality to have the offense win the games. This thing with Nolan and MS with have the defense win the games does not work. We sucked last year doing that and we suck this year. We need someone who is not affraid to be aggressive. Vanilla is boring.

I think the 49ers gave Singletary a shot after the team went 5-3 in the last half of the season last year. I believe that the ownership and the GM felt the team was talented enough to make the playoffs, but Nolan was a poor coach to take them there. Singletary did well enough to earn a shot, but I believe the expectations were to make the playoffs or have a winning season at the very least. Currently I have serious doubts that Singletary will deliver on either option. Does it mean that Singletary gets canned? I don't know, but I'd have to believe that Singletary is at least somewhat tied at hip with Nolan. Looking at our schedule I'd guess that we could go 3-3 in the last six games. The only game we dominated all aspects of the game was against the Rams and even then we only had a couple decent offensive drives. It wasn't as if our offense was parting the red sea. Hell we couldn't even dominate the Bears and they gave us 5 interceptions.
I don't think 7-9 should be good enough for Singletary to keep his job, but I have a feeling it will be by the brass above. My first opinion is to bring in Mike Holmgren as our coach. He was apart of two poor/mediocre franchises and turned them around and took them to 3 Super Bowls. I think it's a perfect marriage, because of his ties to the bay area. My second choice would be Schottenheimer (sp?). I don't really care for Marty ball, but he is a proven winner that turns around franchises and right now that's what we desperately need. Don't tell me, show me! I think I've been told long enough in the Nolan/Singletary era with little results to show for it.
There is absolutely no reason why a team can't be turned around in three years. No one can tell me otherwise. This team should be on a road to winning. My anger is not reflected against the players, because it was up to the GM and coaching staff to draft these players. Maybe the GM and coaching staff aren't on the same page. Maybe the GM stinks at finding talent. Maybe the coaching staff isn't that good. I don't care. I'm not satisfied with the crumbs offered from the elite team's tables. I want more and, as 49er fans, we deserve more.
For my money I'll take the track record. I'll take Mike Holmgren.

Do you think it's even smarter to keep sticking with loser coaches? Just a question.

I agree. Let's bench Smith and put in Steve Young. He's our backup, right? Oh wait, it's Shaun Hill, who's already been benched.
Again, we have some of the dumbest fans in the world. Nobody is saying Smith is tearing it up or anything, but who the hell else do we have? You want to start Davis and get him killed? I know he has a learning disability and all, but with this OL, he'll learn pretty damn quick how to get shell-shocked and throw INT after INT, just like "BIGGEST BUST" Smith.

For those who believe Singletary is great, pls qualify your statements. I like his leadership and motivation skills...but, he's not a football-smart head coach. He would've benefitted from being a DC for a few years before becoming HC. He has limitations...in choosing his coaches/coordinators, in understanding 21st century offenses, just in overall coaching experience. Some would say he deserves more than one year...maybe so. How long do we accept him getting out-coached each Sunday? How long do we accept poor offensive playcalling? He inherited a much more talented team than Nolan did. True, Nolan lasted 3 1/2 seasons...but he was building a team. If there weren't some proven winners out there...I'd probably be more inclined to give him another year to prove himself. Fact is, there are some...and I just feel the team has been transitioning long enough...it's time to put a real winner on the field. Tell me in your heart of hearts you believe Singletary's the guy to lead us there...I don't, which is why I'm calling for a clean sweep of the team's leadership.

Holmgren as GM! Oh dear.
And two ego's like that? I don't think so.
Keep it in the real world, people. How about names for an OL coach and maybe for our annual OC?

Would you rather keep Singletary and the coaching staff intact for the sake of continuity or hire a safe choice in Holmgren, Shannahan, Cowher, etc?!
I think it's a tough call. And one that should be thought over thoroughly by the front office. In my opinion, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I would prefer a proven head coach with his own offensive approach like Shannahan or Holmgren, this way we get a coach and an OC.
But I would also understand and be perfectly content with sticking with Singletary and our coaching staff for continuity. I really like Singletary a lot. I think he's great.
Yea that is a tough call. I like our head coach, but I don't think he is ready to lead an NFL team to the playoffs. We got six games left, lets see how he does and than re-evaluate at the end of the season.

I'm not sure, I really feel like Singletary is another Nolan... a guy I really want to like but just isn't getting it done. Maybe in the future he becomes a head coach again I'm not really sure, but two former Niners are out there right now and how bittersweet would it be to have them back at the helm for the best NFL franchise? It's hard to say... I'm thinking we keep Singletary for another year or so. We are cheap lately when it comes to coaches though hmmph
