It's a QB's world in today's NFL

He's lower than Russell!!

WTF how is he lower than Russell?

there is no ranking within the groupings. For all practical reasons, they all suck equally

Yeah but I have a hard time seeing how he was a bust a long time ago. The last full season he played was 2006, then suffered through 2 years of shoulder injuries. Whether they think he's a bust NOW or not is a different story, but that's BS IMO, he's not bad as Russel. And LOL at those rookies being the future of their team. They could turn out like Smith or even worse easy.

You only have a hard time seeing it because you are a Niner fan. Much of the rest of the civilized world has been calling Alex a bust mainly after his poor showing before the injury. Horrific rookie season + marginal improvement(06) + maybe no improvement(early 07) + MAJOR Injury = BUST to most people

You may not agree, but that is definitely the general perception, what he stated was accurate

You call the improvement marginal but if I recall he was expected to have a break out year in 07. He then lead the team a a 2-1 start and was then injured. The ppor perfomance by the offense in 07 wasn't just Smith if you remember. Hostler's entire offense was horrible.

No No. Its not that "I" call it. It is what everyone else says.

Willis had a hard time believing the writer could get away with saying Alex was labeled a bust a long time ago. I was pointing out that he really had been called a bust a long time ago.

Bottom line is, it is only a debate amongst Niner fans. To the rest of the Football world, there is no debate.

Look at Brady Quinn he sat and from what I saw the other night it didn't appear to help him , the 9ers of 2005 were every bit as lousy as the current Browns , so it's a crapshoot

Don't the browns have an OLine worse than the 49ers? They were giving up a lot of pressure with just a 3 man rush

it is a pointless argument, because you can never prove anything one way or the other.

Personally, I think the very best teacher is real playing time. Thats how you learn. Its just like anything else.....you read something in a book and kind of get it, but when you apply those theories or practices is when it really sinks in. Nobody has ever effectively convinced me that somehow NFL quarterbacking is different.

I do agree with the excuses about the various coordinators and about not getting him weapons or a good line...those are valid excuses. The whole sitting vs playing debate.....thats just peoples opinion

Good point....I think players have different learning curves for whatever reason, but I would listen to the guy that actually coached the kid. Urban Meyer said the guy wouldn't be effective if he didn't learn the whole system inside out before playing and look at what happened. So in this case a person can make a strong argument that Mccarthy(our OC at the time) knows what he's talking about.
would have been smart, although the team still had no talent after 2 years after he was drafted
