We win this game I think we go on a run and make the playoffs and Alex Smith establishes himself as the 49ers quarterback.
That being said, I don't like our chances in this game, if it was in San Fran I think we have a good shot to win, but not in Lambeau. We are overdue for a win there though..........

I think Alex Smith is the QB of the future but I also think he isn't there yet. He is light years ahead of where he was but now he just needs time and comfort in the system and with the receivers and Raye. I don't see us beating GB on the back of Smith. I hope I am wrong.

If he goes into Green Bay's house, puts up a nice game, and beats them at Lambeau, something we haven't done in almost 20 years, all against a top 5 pass defense. THAT will show me something.
THAT would be huge.
and if he doesn't....is that going to be used as an excuse... "Alex faced the #5 Pass Defense in the league"
um....well just in case......he has also faced the 32nd ranked Pass Defense, at Home....and threw 3ints and fumbled 2 times...... 2 picks late in the 4th qtr.
do we just ignore this, if he struggles at Green Bay....and say, hey the kid faced the #5 rank pass defense in the league........na.
that being said...I think we are going to win a close game......I think our defense will slow down Aaron Rodgers....and Alex will hopefully snap his interception streak at 4 games......and doesn't try to do too much and just let our playmakers come through at the end.

Don't worry, if we lose, they'll come up with some sort of excuse to keep the blame off of Alex.
Alex is not the QB of the future for this team.

And if we win, you'll probably disappear till next week. We get it.

No, I give credit where credit is due.
Alex played great in the Houston game, and s**tty ever since. I'm not stupid enough to blame interceptions on other players when they are obviously Alex's fault.

exactly....and I have seen Alex go on the road and win a tough game....that game against the Broncos really impressed me...and it was also a plus that I hate the Broncos...and the fact that we basically ended their season was just GRAND!.....so I was looking forward to that next year.....but you know how the story went.
so he does have these wins every now and then where he surprises me, but it just doesn't happen as much as I'd prefer....I don't like to be teased...either you're good or you're not......4 years is a long time to be patient......I'm not patient anymore.

Who's making excuses? Nobody was going "WAHHHHH BUT ALEX PLAYED THE #6 PASSING D IN INDIANAPOLIS, WAAAAH!" -- No. You didn't have that. Not at all. And you know dang well Tennessee's defense is no where near the same unit they were before destroying Jacksonville after getting their star defensive players back.
It's about showing improvement and great growth. That is ALL I'm referring to, my friend. When I say, "if Alex can do that," I'm saying that accomplishment would show me a lot.
NO ONE, especially not I, will be whining about Green Bay's defensive rank if Alex doesn't play well. No. No. And no. You're an NFL QB and you get the job done no matter who you face.
I think it'd be "outstanding," to use Singletary's words, for Alex to go in there against the top 5 defense AT Green Bay and beat them. And not only beat them, but beat his counterpart in the 2005 draft.
I will always be rightfully disappointed when any player, not just Alex, performs below what they should. There's no playing favorites, because while I like Alex -- I'm a 49ers fan, not an Alex Smith fan.

Yes. This is one of the biggest games of Smith's career. Hopefully every game after that will be too. That means he's winning. We our still fighting for our playoff lives and Smith needs to deliver the goods. The pressure won't decrease as the season goes on unless we're out of it.

I think that 32nd ranked defense was pretty good the game before and ever since. I'll bet since we played them they've statistically been in the top 5 so that argument is ridiculous.

David Carr, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Tim Couch, all rookie QB's thrown into horrible situations. You get those QBs by starting rookies on bad teams more often than you get Matt Ryans. and really, all those teams' talent were much better than what the 9ers had after the Erickson and Donahue fiasco.

The Niners as a whole have proven to be a good road team (despite the losses). The key for Alex is to play mistake free, the OL giving him time, and JR's PLAY calling.
I'm more excited to see our defense score on a pick or fumble recovery. Given the long week and preparation time, the Niners should be ready to kick a$$!!!
