If you think the measure of a QB is 300 yard games, you should probably stick to Madden.

Well then I should mention that Alex Smith is mediocre in touchdowns, wins, turnovers, QB rating, passing yards and basically every statistical measurement by which a quarterback can be judged.

His lack of 300 yard passing games simply go to show that despite his rare flashes of talent, he is unable to sustain any level of success over the course of an entire football game.

Better than your 300 yards argument. That argument just roars of lack of understanding of football. Smith has to perform better, not doubt about it, but the fact remains he is the best we have. If he works out, great, and great for the team, if not, we have to get headed in the right direction, which means more time until we are competitive again.

To dismiss the fact that Alex Smith has zero 300 yard passing games in 33 starts is just as foolish as declaring that this stat is the SOLE reason why he is a terrible quarterback.

Only to you maybe, we are not a passing oriented team. If we were trying to play like the colts or patriots it might matter, but we aren't so your 300 yard hangup is irrelevant, to say the least.

exactly look at all the run first teams not many of them have 300 yd passing Qbs only pass first teams such as saints colts patriots and texans

Here was the breakdown in Alex's only full season 2006.

442 passes thrown
439 rushing attempts

We threw the ball more than we ran the ball under Norv Turner. Alex had multiple games that year where he surpassed 30 or 40 passing attempts and still did not record a 300 yard passing game.

All these stats are indicative of his lack of ability. He hasn't had a 300 yard passing game because of the "we're a running team" excuse. He hasn't had a 300 yard passing game because he's a terrible quarterback.

Good post. Alex sucks, hope we lose every game so he's cut after this season.
First game of 06 should have been 340 yards if Kwame didn't hold on a 52 yard bomb to Bryant.

Yes it's still painful to think of the plays called back.

No. But I hope he gets cut after this season so we can win more games in the future.

Sorry dude, if we finish the season 9-7, which is reachable, he'll probably be back next season.

I don't think we can finish the season 6-2 in the last 8 games. That would be very impressive.

Yes
At this point, I'm impartial to Alex coming back. If he doesn't, who cares, our OL will still probably suck balls, meaning we'll continue to suck on offense. Watching these other games, every QB in the league seems to get 4-5 seconds per play in the pocket, while we are lucky to get 3 on a good play.

Aaron Rodgers gets less time in the pocket than Alex and still manages to make big plays and put up monstrous numbers.

Just sayin

true. he also has one of the better WR cores in the league IMO. either way, rogers is light years ahead of smith.
And people want to defend him. Didn't that rookie from Tampa, Freeman throw for 300 or 3 td's in his first start? How many 3 td games does Smith have?...Another reason to hate

Rodgers gets much more time in the average play then Smith IMO. Either way, I agree with Dino, at this point he's better then Smith and he has an infinitely better WR core then we do. Driver + Jones + Jennings is one of the best 3 WR sets in the NFL. We can get there, but our team would rather play Delanie at slot WR then Jason Hill.
