Alex Smith has 33 starts so far without a 300 yard passing game.

I hear its not his fault.

I hear that too....must not be his fault. Though Cutler with a poor offensive line threw for 300+ against us Thursday night, add the 5 picks and it isn't as impressive, but 300 regardless.
Yeah, lots of really good qbs will go for 10 or 15 games in a row where they average barely 150 yards a game. LOL

Alex sucks. Why do you think the Niners didn't want to risk having him pass the ball much in the 4th qtr in our win against the Bears?

Alex has a decent completion % because he's always looking to check down and dump the ball off short even when it's 3rd and long. Just look at his completion % against the bears.

There is a reason he only had 118 yards passing against the Bears despite a decent completion %. All but two of his passes were under 9 yards. He had a 20 yard completion to Crabtree and on another play he threw a four yard pass that Crabs gained an additional 11 yards after making the catch.

Alex lacks the confidence, field awareness, pocket presence, and accuracy to make plays down the field unless there is no pressure on him. By pressure I mean both the defensive passrush and the pressure of the moment. Just look at the Niners final drive in each game Smith started prior to the Bears game. He choked in each one of them. Against the Bears despite our defense getting four turnovers (in the first 57 minutes of the game) and basically handing the offense the only points that were scored, the offense was so inept with Smith that the bears still had a chance to win the game as they reached our 13 yardline down only by four points. Thankfully the defense bailed us out again with that endzone int.

Alex is at best a handoff specialist for Gore. At worst he's a detriment to winning when we need a score late in the game.

If Alex remains the starter we will win games becuase of two things.

#1 A crappy opponent

#2 The defense plays lights out like they did against the Bears.

there's a simple explanation : throws you make to the other team (called "interception" or "INT") don't count in your yards stats
Else he would have made it past 300 yards quite quickly ...

Ok, lets all play a game. How many interceptions did Montana throw against the cowboys in the NFC 81 championship game?

I know many of you are too young too recall.

Do you guys know???

3. He threw 3 interceptions.

And he didn't throw for 300 yards.

That is more thoery than reality. Take away three long runs by Gore we probably average less than 3 yards a carry.

Youre misssing the point. Montana threw many multiple game interceptions. Warner threw for 5 interception just two weeks ago. Quarterbacks throw interceptions sometimes. Everyone here is quick to cut Smith simply because he threw 3 interceptions. This team will never good if we yank each person after a bad game.

No, we're noticing here that Smith hasnt thrown for 300 yards...EVER! You can overcome interceptions and win, if you get out there and complete some passes.

It was more than 33 starts! I think it was about 36-37.
