Our pass rush and our Oline have been very inconsistent to non-existent. I would like to see the focus in FA/Draft on Oline and Dline with a cb in there as well.....I think we have young guys at most other positions to take the place of some of the vets

Our OLB's apply zero pressure, our DE's create no pass rush. It is pathetic.
Pass rusher and RT have two be the top two priorities next year, and qb could be there also, but I believe in Nate Davis.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Vince Young had an alright game against us. The main problem in that game was turnovers and Chris Johnson. As for Schaub, he is a probowl quarterback. He is 7th in the league in quarterback ratings, 1st in total yards, and tied for 1st with touchdown passes. Also, I love how you use ridiculous exaggerations to "prove" your point. I mean really, you'd have to be pretty damn blind to not notice that we have an okay passrush. Why are you so quickly to forget that this is the same passrush that had 3 sacks against Indy, who has one of the toughest quarterbacks to sack. And if you watched the Bears game, while they didn't get a sack, they did a good job of getting to Cutler. Remember when Brooks burst through the line to deflect one of Cutler's passes? I don't know about you, but I would call that giving pressure.

When a NT gets an INT you know there's a pass rush. In the TEN game Johnson was burning us on the outside edge all day long. Forte was burning us on the short pass and screen on the outside as well. Clements being out has really hurt us in that regard.

As someone mentioned, too often our QB's cut outside the quarterback instead of cutting inside, getting in his face. This is especially frustrating when we're facing immobile QB's who if forced outside would be less effective.
We're not doing this. And with mobile QB's, they just step up and have an amazing, whole wide open field of vision to see receivers from. The only thing that saves us much of the time is either a poor pass, a poor decision, or just coverage being too good allowing the defense to eventually get to the QB and get the sack.

Manny Lawson's pass rush arsenal is very limited. His specialty is the bull rush. He frequently disrupted Cutler by moving his blocker into the pocket, which was good. What he is not good at is shedding his blocker. He stays too high and can't duck his way into the QB once he's closed in (think of how Jared Allen swims underneath his blockers).
Ray McDonald at the DE position was a bright spot. He's also a bull rusher with very good strength. I liked the pressure he was able to generate against the pass. I think McDonald will be a very good player for us and will continue to get better.
Isaac Sopoaga has a poor motor, plain and simple. Strength has never been an issue for this guy, but he is just too limited at DE to make a difference in the pass. He is however a good run stopper because of his ability to hold his ground at the corner.
Haralson had 1 tackle...but he used his speed well to collapse the pocket. He had good penetration on two of our INT's, but has problems finishing as well.
Justin Smith didn't impress me last night. He's another bull rusher, and the fact he was being blocked by the massive Orlando Pace had a lot to do with his ineffectiveness. He also held his ground against the run, but against the pass, he was a non-factor.
I think our low sack total has a lot to do with our limited array of pass rush moves. We're good at powering into the pocket, but we're not very good at finishing.
Agree or disagree?
I think our linemen do a GREAT job of supplying pressure. I mean it's not really their job in our scheme yet our line has done a fine job of applying pressure. Basically our linemen shouldn't have an array of moves....
Don't get me started on the OLB's.
I complimented our D-line players for their strength and run-stop ability. I agree that our lineman do a GOOD job or supplying pressure, but a little finesse and athleticism wouldn't hurt either. Sopoaga's great against the run...but c'mon man...against a 5 step drop...he's useless! Justin Smith I have no problems with...I just wish we had two of him. Franklin's fat and can plug the middle, but he's another non-factor against the pass. Think of how Jay Ratliff at DT is able to use his maneuverability to get to the QB. Wouldn't it be nice to have one of those? Of course it would! But we're deploying a limited aresenal. We have the heart...we just don't have the talent

Ahmad Brooks impressed me, it looks like he is a more natural pass rusher than Haralson or Lawson.
Lawson only has one move. Haralson plays hard but this year he has been kept in check.

Maybe technique is an issue, but I think Coach Manusky is doing a heck of a job with this defense. I agree that our secondary is playing a lot better with the younger guys (even without Clemmons). The Niners are one pass rusher away from being great.
I think we should give Carolina thier number 1 pick back for Julius Peppers.............

Gotta agree w/SD...we really don't have an effective pass rush. Too often, it's non-existent, or if it does surface, we don't finish with sacks or even solid QB hits. While our DL has played well overall, as a team we don't scare opponents with the pass rush. 'Til we get some high impact players, we won't.

What the hell has happened to Haralson? The dude isn't getting near the QB and he is a HUGE liability in coverage. Is it just me or does he look really slow on the field?
Haralson hasn't had the season I was hoping for and itsn't getting the job done. I'd like to see a little more of Brooks in his place. Briggs showed some promise in pre-season, but I doubt he's ready to make an impact pass rushing.
Something needs to change, cause we aren't getting to the QB in time. Seems like everytime we have a pass rusher close to getting the QB, he's just a step to slow to get the sack.
