Give Nate Davis a shot..

Nate needs this year to soak up the offense...Nolan dang near ruined Alex, let's not support that happening again. Alex bashers need to give him the same time they gave Shaun...which is fair, considering both guys will have the opportunity with better talent around them than Alex had early on. If he's still chuckin' up multiple picks by season's end, then by all means, Nate should be in the competition, plus we may want to draft another QB, just not in the 1st round...that needs to be for OL resurrection.

I saw him smiling/laughing after one of the turnovers. Please get this joke of a QB out of here. Start Davis the rest of the season and user Hill as a backup. If we play Davis at least we will know if we need to waste a high pick on a QB or not next draft.

Would you rather him sit and whine and mope around on the sidelines like they caught Sanchez doing a few weeks ago? Look a lot of his picks are a result of tipped balls or positions that are simply not very manageable (end of game vs. Texans, Crabtree tip, Morgan tip, etc). I am interested in what Nate can do, but this team will continue to struggle against good teams until our Oline play improves.
Remember as well that this was one of the Titan's most complete defenses as they have had injuries much of the year. Not making an excuse (we should have won this game) but stop looking for the backup to be a savior, it's on the front 5 of this team to make us a winner!

I think that was off of Crabs tipped pass, if you expect him to scream and look mad that's not his style.

Sorry but the way he carries himself looks like he just does not give a S**t.

true! he used to mope after turnovers, but it was great to see that his head was still in it. I don't think he was necessarily laughing at the turnover, but more like "O M G, did that really just happen... again?"

Watch him in the presser, he looks and sounds disappointed.

I'm all for starting Nate at some point this year. But first I would like to see us try something. Which they never will. And it likely won't work.
I want them to use both Hill and Smith's strengths.
Hill: Doesn't turn the ball over. But doesn't score points.
Smith: Scores points but turns the ball over.
Translation-- Hill doesn't hurt the defense but doesn't help the defense. Smith Helps the defense but hurts the defense.
So why not play Hill from our own 1 to our own 45 yard line. From the 45 on play Smith. Smith gives us the best chance to score. Plus if he does happen to turn the ball over atleast the defense's back isn't immediately against the wall.
Half conservative, Half attacking.
Please spare me the continuity and rythm

90% of players smile after they screw up. A guy drops a pass, he runs back to the huddle like he heard a good joke. Somebody commits a stupid penalty that kills a drive, he is all smiles like he found a pile of gold. You see this in every game, every team.
It seems to be a recent phenomenon, getting worse every year.

dude, nate is not a scrambler like Alex, he would get killed back there.
I really like the way Nate reads the defense, but he's not ready.
Alex is still showing flashes of competence, if he can sustain that, I will be happy. If the O-line gets better, I'm sure he will.
Neither is Rothlesburger which Davis does remind me off big and strong and gets away from tacklers! Extends the play and makes not only accurate but has the strong arm to stretch the field unlike smith or hill.
Plus We ain't got nothing to lose might as well let him gain the experience and we shall see if we need to draft a QB in 2010.
He's a rookie from a small school with a severe learning disability. He has natural talent but putting him out there, on a poor team that is playing poorly. You will destroy any potential he has. This isn't madden where you can plug and play athletes, you have to take the human element into account.
When did his learning disability become "severe"? Don't get me wrong, I don't think you bench Smith after a bad game, even Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have bad games. But let's not sit here and assume that Davis "isn't ready" or will be destroyed if he plays this year. Unless of course those opinions are coming from someone within the organization that has first hand knowledge of how he is progressing, those statements have no more merit than those of folks that think he can play this year.
If you want to look at the human element, look at some of the things he has done, some things that show his mental makeup, that can tell you how he would do in pressure situations, or when playing for a bad team. Look at his game against Michigan his freshman year. Look at his performance at Nebraska his sophomore year. Look at the fact that he could take a small school that most folks hadn't even heard of and lead them to an undefeated regular season and put them in the national rankings. Not too long before he got there, Ball State held the Nation's longest losing streak. After he left...that team has a grand total of 1 win so far this year without him, with losses to the likes of North Texas and New Hampshire. Yeah, put him in pressure situations while he's young, or put him on a poor team and let's see what happens. Been there, done that.
Again, Smith had a poor performance Sunday. There are a lot of knee jerk folks around here and I think benching him now is premature. But for the love of God, I can't take all these baseless opinions on how there is no way Nate could play this year without being destroyed. I guarantee that if any of those folks making those posts had seen any significant amount of Nate Davis' play in college, knew anything about Ball State and it's program, they wouldn't be posting that crap. Will he be a great starter? Who knows, but if he doesn't succeed, it won't be because of his learning disability (note the lack of the word "severe" in there) or being thrown to the wolves.
No don't start him yet. But if the organization is thinking about a QB in the next draft, and the season is a lost cause, I would think it would be a good idea to see how he handles things before making a decision on a QB in the draft.

After seeing compilation Video of Nate In preseason
I am convince he has more pocket presence then Smith
i know i know
all you guys are going to say but that's against the scrubs during meaningless preaseason game true true!!!
but the truth is the kid could ball!!!
that one play against Dallas when he was going down for a sack & he still manage to get it down the field for what about 40 yds shows u he has a cannon also
yeah he did have a few over thrown ball but that was with pressure in his face but
when he had time to throw he looked pretty effective
Hill couldnt even throw that ball that far down the field with him standing upright
I am just saying WHEN Smith faulters AGAIN this thursday that wil make us 3-6 pretty much the season is a wrap lets see what Davis can do
if he can have some decent games with that crappy O-line let the man start next year
that way we dont have to bother drafting a QB next year we can use that pick elsewhere & we all know there is alot of other position's we have to addressee
Think about it what if he doesnt get his chance to shine we draft a QB
the QB we draft become's another Smith (BUST) by that time when we all realize that he isnt the answer either
Nate might be shining somewhere else & why cuz he never got a fair chance to show what he had because we drafted a high pick QB who management figured would be the future
It will be the worst decision since well Drafting Mr Alex Smith

Agreed. Giving Nate Davis a shot should only happen if the season completely tanks, as in, we lose our next 3 or 4. Otherwise, we really have to see if Alex Smith is our starting QB of the future.
