Bring him back, but not at $6M. If he wants to take a pay cut then I'm all for it.

I'm a big advocate of Nate Clements not living up to his signing hype, but it would be ridiculous to cut our #1 CB, especially with the $$ we've invested in him.
He still is the best CB on our roster with his physicality, and even though he is losing a step somewhat; and -- he can be put at SS to fill the void left by Michael Lewis (who I think might be done the poor guy has had way too many concussions he needs to think of his future health now).
He's not losing a step. He's just as fast as he ever was. He's never been great in coverage. His plus has always been the way he hits around the line of scrimage as a CB. And he is a good but not great cover corner. He is what he always was. People who expected someting different weren't being realistic.
I have to disagree. He is most definitely losing a step. He is getting slow -- while never a burner, he was pretty quick in cuts and on gambles in Buffalo and for the first 2 years of our team. I just think he has gotten slower overall -- he's almost 30 and is looking more suited to play safety.
And if people weren't expecting a great cover corner when we signed him at the height of career for a contract that made him the top paid defender in the league, then you are trippin. He was considered to be the end-all of our #1 WR match-up woes at the time of his signing.
He just made a bad gamble on the Rhoddy White play. He gambled and lost. Rhoddy White is a 4.30 guy. So nobody is going to catch him if they start out 3 steps behind or whatever from jumping a route.
Clements is like what 29 years old or something. He hasn't lost any speed. He never was as fast as Champ Bailey. But he's fast enough to be an effective CB.
We have ZERO pass rush on this team and that makes him look worse than he is IMO. He would be better than now if he had a pass rush.
Furthermore the fans never notice the games he plays well like Houston. He did a good job against an elite WR in that game but it's just taken for granted. WZ fans just notice his bad games. There are less bad games than previous CB's we have had.

Even at $6 mil, there is no way I would even thinkb about cutting him unless we have much more proven depth at DB. I don't agree with the $6 mil but I would rather pay that and keep him than to have a bunch of subpar guys off the street getting torched by AZ back there

Your going to pay a backup $6M? Maybe if he starts, but not as a nickel back.

Move him to FS and Goldson to Strong Saftey. Cut Mark cannot make a play Roman

I think this thread needs some constructive criticism.
Hows that old saying go again...
You can NEVER have enough Corners? Especially in a league that handcuffs Defensive units?
Nuff said? Or do you need more?
Oh ey, ey yo did we not play the the best team in the League and lose by only 4 points? Now I don't know when Nate went down but seems to me that if he were as bad as people seem to believe that he is, we would have gotted CRUSHED by a team capable of doing so.

Keep him and move him to Strong Safety. He's excellent in run support and would lock down any TE in coverage. I think Goldson is a great FS and I don't think Clements has the speed to play FS.

we should keep him. I know he is high priced and maybe shawnte should be the starter but clements is a solid cover guy and is definitley a solid tackler and a pivitol part of our run defense believe it or not. He may take over michael lewis's spot one day. Someone please answer me this. Walt harris is old , we knew before he got hurt his time was coming to an end. So why did we let donald strickland go?

I'm not sure why this is even a poll. A better question would be why would we cut one of the best CB's in the game? Restructure his contract sure, but cutting him would be very foolish. Especially since we don't have a proven replacement for him yet.
And as far as moving him to safety....for what? He's been doing just fine at CB. Nate was well on his way to the Pro Bowl before he got hurt.

Remember Tyrone Drakeford? Rod Woodson? R.J. McQuarters? Mike Rumph? Now THAT was garbage.
But without anything remotely resembling a consistent pass rush (hello? Manny Lawson? Hello? Is this thing on?), no cornerback is going to be dazzling in this defense. I'm not thrilled by Clements, but do you really think Tarrell Brown is ready to go for the rest of the season?
Be great, kid and hello, Dre' Bly.
No, those guys were not garbage (except for Rumph).
Remember Sammy Davis?

If we keep him he needs to restrcture his contract or if we cut him it doesn't matter to me. He hasn't done anything spectacular for the money he is getting. We can easily add better Oline for that money.

He's not a shut down corner anymore. He's not even a starter anymore. I could see if he was still an elite corner, but to pay him $6M for his skill set is not feasable.
