Plain and Simple Why We Lost to the Colts

Here are the reasons:

1. Two turnovers for us, none for them

2. Running game and ball control. Yes Frank gore had a 64 yard run for the TD. Take that away and he is 12 carries for 27 yards. We basically have no running game hence no ball control and no balanced offense.

3. Overall the defense played excellent. However, the inability to stop key plays on 3rd down in the late stages of the game killed us. Look what Dallas Clark did. Chalk this up to experience and coaching on the Colts side.

The team has gotten much better in the passing game, but we just can't control the ball on the ground.
You should include not converting on 3rd downs, 2 for 10.

That has been our problem this whole season.
manning had over 300 yards. imagine if he had actually been on his game and not missed so many throws?
they scored more points

+1, you could tell they were playing a brain fart of a game...down to our level. They bring their A game and this could have covered the spread easy.

Imagine if our defense had not kept him off his game...

Yes, that is true. I see that because we end up getting 3rd and longs which are difficult to convert because we can't run.
Bill Walsh used the passing game to open up the run. I'm convinced we can do the same, if Smith can continue to deliver and Raye and Singletary will allow Smith to turn it loose a little more often.

We're right on the edge of complete and total team meltdown right now. I'm not sure if we're at "turn it loose" at this point, but if the powers that be decide to take the leash off after we're out of the running -- and it works -- you're going to have some mighty upset people in the front office.

Not to mention the fan base.
Lost in the shuffle was how bad we covered Reggie Wayne 12 Rec over 100 yards. Spencer Brown oh boy

do you give the D any credit for missing so many throws, or credit the D for sacking him 3 times when he had only been sacked twice all season.

The D deserves a lot of credit for yesterday
pound for pound their players are better than ours.

That is the simplest explanation of why the Niners lost.
I dont know what to say......BUT WTF?

Dan is absolutely right, their players are 4 points better than ours.
We shot ourselves in the foot a few times with stupid penalties. There were at least 2 times in the 1st half we faced 3rd and 20.
