His veteran presence has a small amount of value. And his route running, same thing. We have coaches for the benefits that you've listed he brings. Sure, other WR's say that they talk to him for advice and such, but so much of that is pandering to the media.
I too want to see what the younger guys can do. Can they block in 2 TE sets?
When you have a guy like Crabtree preform better in two games than a seasoned vet all season, you know the vet quality and experience isn't an asset anymore.
Dude? Are you kidding? You can only say something this devoid in thought IF the guy is catching passes from the same guy the entire season.
Either you ain't using your brain or you're overstating it just a tad bit. Which is it?

You think that might have something to do with the guy that was throwing him the ball through the first 5 and a half games?
He may be losing a step but until the younger guys supplant him he deserves to be on the field. I felt the same way when Rice neared the end of his career with us. There is no accounting for a solid Vet when you've pulled him. So make the young pups step up. Then see what you got.

Yeah part of it was the lack of production fron the QB position through the first 5 games but even so Bruce is nothing more than a possession receiver right now.He really should be our #3 because he has no big play ability at this point in his career.Morgan and Crabtree with Bruce coming in as the 3rd WR is a better lineup and gives us a good chance to win IMO. I hope Sing sees this in the film and makes the change.

Has to be. He's costing us games with his drops that kill drives. Outside of route running he doesn't really do anything, and that only really helps you out if once he gets the ball he can hold onto it. He doesn't stretch the field, he doesn't block well, and his hands have turned to stone. I like the guy but I think he's pretty much done.
anyone notice on the fumble by Crabtree what Bruce was doing? he was in front of the play and just kind of stood there watching the ball lie on the ground. no effort to pick it up at all, maybe he didn't think it was a fumble but he should have dove head first towards the ball, if he would have i believe he def would have recovered it. Looks like Bruce is just collecting a paycheck.
I have no doubt that morgan would have been in there fighting for the ball.
Or Davis/Crabtree/Gore/Norris/J.Hill I mean come on it's a freaking fumble! Get your ass on the ground and fight for the football!!!!

I say we cut him and bring him back as an assistant recievers coach. I would rather start Crabtree and Jones, Morgan in the slot....but we fans dont know anything about football....

He dropped two first downs today. He just has lost it -- he's still a great route-runner but his hands are terrible this season it's shocking! I don't get why he's still staring. He needs to be put on the bench as our #3 or maybe even #4... He needs to be able to allow for our young receivers to develop not only with the experience on the field, but more importantly -- to develop rapport with Alex Smith.

Yes. What I see on TV and what I hear from commentators, he has lost the passion. He still makes a play now and then like today, but he is just as likely to not go up or fight for the ball.
He needs to sit, and our young players need to get ready for next year and the rest of this year..
NINERS!!!
It's hard to bench him when we asked him to delay retiring for this year. I do think we need to start rotating in the younger guys with him.

Ever heard the phrase, Well football is a business".
So if you don't take care of your biz, then they will find someone who will.

Bruce still runs his routes well, but he just doesn't have the sure hands he used to. It seems he's dropped quite a few balls this season. I've never really been a fan of his drop and protect style either. I understand it's a physical game and sometimes the smart thing to do is protect yourself, but I've always liked a more physical fight for extra yards type reciever. Not trying to take away from the man though, he has obviously had a great career. I side with those who believe Morgan and Crabs give us our best duo at this point.

Bruce dropping passes= uncharacteristic
I don't know if he's done playing football but Crabtree should soak up as much as possible from him this year so we can move on without him.
Next year WR corp
Crabtree
Morgan
Hill

God I hope not. Crabs is talented but Morgan is a #3 at best and hill shouldn't even be on this team anymore.
