I thought there were many changes in Alex Smith that seemed a bit stunning for the changes that were made. First off his footwork and quick drops and accuracy and poise. He seemed a boy before but he seems a real vet now. I think his passes are different too in that he seemed not to try to find 3 yard targets at the last sec and miss them. Most of his passes were to 10 yard plus targets and he was getting the ball there in time to get caught. I think he should be congratulated. I think they could fill stadiums with qbs who never could. I am encouraged as I think if it were a fluke it would have shown up during the half sometime. Vd seems unstoppable in that post route. I think if they play to stop him other guys like Crabtree etc will eat teams alive.
Just having a guy you can depend on for first downs will make all the difference to the niners. With Crabtree, he is mostly free and even if not, his hands and technique give him an edge on jump balls. I think Crabtree sort of negates longer third downs to 3rd and 2 type situations. I think that will make a world of difference to Alex going forward.

I mean honestly, who could have predicted that 2nd half? Just 2 months ago this guy looked like garbage in the preseason. Yesterday he threw darts on target, and showed
poise in the pocket to avoid pressure and sacks. How could this be the same guy we saw 9 weeks ago, that could not beat out Shaun "rag arm" Hill? I hope this wasn't a mirage or fluke. Seems most zoners saw ability in Smith against the Seahawks in December 2006, that was the only game I missed in the 15 years. I never thought Smith was capable of this type performance. If Hill would have started the second half, I would have watched another game, I was that pissed.

I mean honestly, this couldn't be just some fluke game where he's tossing up these nice balls right.
this has to be a New QB, i just hope it wasn't a one game thing.
I'm not saying he'll have those numbers again, but if he can play at that level and get us some scores or setup a run to score. that's all good with me.

It's not a fluke. He's matured now, and he has the weapons to throw to. Everything happens for a reason. Mr. Hill was out fishing and Smith stayed to throw to Crabtree during the bye week. Well, their timing looked like it was perfect. The 2nd half of the Houston game is just everything coming together like it's supposed to. Suddenly our future is looking bright.

He ran it with Norv when Norv was with us, and he had his more productive season. I hope this works out for us, because with his arm strength he can really stretch the field, and keep the D on it's toes to get Fank the Tank some more room to roam.
Go Niners!!

I've always been pulling Smith, even in TC i was rooting for him to come out over Hill.
I always thought that Smith lacked confidence, i hope that he can see now that he can be a good QB.
This is Alex Smith v. 2.0.

Sure it was only one game, but i feel that he showed us a very new and improved Alex Smith.
Now lets say the defense was playing a type of prevent defense, almost any quarterback would be able to complete some passes in that situation, but it was an improvement regardless of whether the defense was or not. The Alex we knew was just terrible and i feel that he has really improved to the point that he deserves a second chance. Shawn Hill is a legit quarterback, he has accuracy and avoids making mistakes. I honestly believe that if Mike gave Shawn more chances to pass the ball rather than when we desperately need it, we would be able to see his accuracy at short to medium throws. He may not have the rocket arm, but who wouldn't want a quarterback who didn't make mistakes?

The problem of late is he has been making mistakes and missing receivers when they are open. He definitely regressed from last year, nowhere near as accurate and he seemed to play scared the past couple of games. He is a legit backup, he probably wouldn't have ever gotten to start a game in the NFL except for all the injuries we had at QB. He is a solid backup, but not the guy that is going to lead you to the promised land. Not saying that Smith is either, but he has much more natural talent than Hill, he just needed experience to develop.
