Does Frank Gore mask our real problems?

When he goes wild for 200 yards we beat up on teams. When he is out our defense struggles because they are on the field more, our offense can't run or pass. And if we get behind or try to come from behind forget it. It's an absolutely hopeless team as far as come from behind situations.

When the game is on our QB and WR's we see what we really have. And this is not just the Atlanta game BTW. This has happened before. Minus Frank Gore we are one of the worst teams in the league. With Gore we can be competative in any game as long as we get a lead, keep the lead and run, run, run.

So are we really any good as a team when you take Gore out of the equation?

Are the Colts as good a team if you take Peyton Manning out of the equation? Every team has great players, and without those great players, they wouldn't be the same.

Yes, we're better with Gore, but we competed against Minnesota without him. I don't think he masks anything. I don't know if "mask" is the right word. We're SUPPOSED to have a good RB. If you can't run the ball, that will naturally begin to affect the rest of the team. You probably won't be able to pass as well. You won't be picking up 1st-downs. Your defense will remain on the field longer and thus get tired, meaning they probably start to give up more yards, points, etc.

So I don't think Gore masks our problems. He's just an essential part of the team and with him, we're a better team. Without him, the team begins to suffer.
This is mostly the way it is with 80% of the teams in the NFL. The moment your axis goes out, without stable depth/replacement, you lose complete balance.

Frank Gore is the heart of this team, and people forget that his presence isn't just left by his running abilities, but he's probably the best blocking RB in the league (and that's why so many players/coaches respect him).

If you go back and watch the Cards game you'll notice that Frank WAS THE SOLE REASON WE WON THAT GAME (on offense). -He sniffed out all those sneaky linebackers that were finding holes through coverage, and Frank literally broke their jaws so Hill could sustain that 4th quarter drive.

It's simple, the 49ers won't make the playoffs without Frank Gore, just as the Colts (for instance) will not make the playoffs if Peyton Manning were to get injured.

I agree he is very essential. It's just when I see us without him we look like 0 - 16. We look like the worst team in the league.

IMO he even makes our defense better. He keeps them off the field by extending out very long drives.

That's because we don't have a lot of great players. If Wayne goes down, the Colts still have Manning. If Harvin goes down, the Vikings still have Peterson. If Gore goes down...we're screwed. Our team is built around Gore.

I agree we don't have a lot of other good players (none actually on O. other than Gore) but that is the problem.

Isn't it Scot M's job to add other good / great players. What has he been doing for all these years?

dude, whats with you and being incredibly negative and sour the last week or 2? calm down. youre taking this ATL loss WAY too hard. calling for Sing's job, saying our team secretly sucks, etc. just quiet down and wait a few more weeks before you start calling the team terrible.

we didnt have Gore against MIN up in Minny, and we had them beat. outside the miracle throw, we would have came out of a harsh dome against a now 6-0 team with a win. i dont see how your argument that Gore makes the team holds any merit with this blatant evidence from just 3 some weeks ago. Coffee didnt even run well against them either.

We are usually pretty pathetic without Gore. With him at least we look competative.

yeah, but you can say that about most teams. take Andre Johnson away from Houston, take MJD away from Jax, heck, take Manning away from Indy. take away any offenses best player, and theyre performance will drop significantly 9 times out of 10.

I guess but other teams have a few guys. But we are really a one man show. It seems like there is no talent at all besides him. The O. Line is no good, QB is bad, WR's are overrated and backup RB's are below average.

It's a huge, huge dropoff without Gore. We are completely devoid of talent without Gore.

Oh I totally agree, Frank just does everything.

Sun Tzu wasn't bulls**ting when he said (in summary): In limited strength/desperation, the more skill you possess in one, the more it will mirror your entire army in 'lateral' sequence, limiting any shine of predictability to your enemy.

-I.e., when everybody is covering Gore, it opens windows for Vernon Davis, and in sequence, while defenses change their focus onto the other players, they leave Gore out into the open to do some damage (like in 90% of our redzone situations where Franks goes in 'un-touched' for the TD off of right-hooks).

guys on our offense with potential pro bowl type talent: Gore, Heitmann, Staley, Davis, and then we will see what Crabtree can do.

we have some talent on offense, we just dont have a star qb. you can get away with having a pretty poor offense if you have a talented QB. look at the Bears.

our line is still young. Heitmann is one of the best C in football, and the quality of a line starts with a good C. so at least we have a nice building block. Staley and Baas are coming along. i know RT is a void, and Chilo has been terrible, but our line used to be 33rd in the NFL if you know what i mean. were getting there. next years draft we can take a 1st round RT with our extra pick.

obviously our running game is fine with Gore and Norris. Coffee has promise, despite an unimpressive first starting opportunity, but hes young.

and ive always beleived that our WR's and VD look alot worse than they really are due to our QB situation. guys like Morgan and Battle would look alot more talented if they had Drew Brees or Peyton Manning throwing them the ball. Morgan goes to Indy hes immediately their number 2 imo. hes got the talent, he just doesnt get enough good opportunities to show it. its not a surprise what well placed passes on a regular basis can do for any WR's career.

talented quality QB's dont grow on trees, and for our offense, its a matter of finding one of them one way or another before we become a better offensive team. our D is looking great for the long term, so at least we can be happy about that.

If you look at every good team in the NFL, they have 1 or both of these things: A very good QB and/or an elite pass rusher.
Frnak was shut down vs Arizona, he only has one good game
