The last four games he has basically dissapeared. I just wonder if he is one of those guys who is best suited to be a 3rd down/pass rush specialist. Add to the fact we don't exactly have a really good pass rusher opposite Haralson and I don't think he will be starting again next year, or at the very least Lawson AND Haralson both will not be our starting OLB's next year.

no he is not , you gotta remember he rushing on the same side as justin smith, so he is getting more push from him. I think its more justin smith creating holes for him to go through than pary. I think this is a definate upgrade area.

Start Ahmad Brooks, he can do no worse than Parys.

During the offseason I said yes, he showed good progress last season, and had a great first half against AZ, ever since then he hasn't been a factor; there is no reason for him not to produce more sacks, while rushing behind J Smith.
I hope we draft a good pass rusher to replace him, or sign one in the offseason.

Absolutely. He's better than Lawson, and Pro Football Focus has him rated as the 3rd ranked 3-4 OLB this season.
Where is all this coming from? One bad game for the defense? After the Arizona game, I'm sure most of you knuckleheads were touting him for All-Pro...

How Haralson is being bashed now is beyond me and speaks to the utter foolishness of this board.
Haralson vs. Lawson
QB pressures: Haralson 12; Lawson 6
QB Hits: Haralson 4; Lawson 2
QB Sacks: Haralson 1; Lawson .5
Tackles for loss: Haralson 2; Lawson 2
Tackles: Haralson 13; Lawson 27
It's clear that Haralson is the better player to me. Lawson should be a 2 down player IMO, and we should have a pass rush specialist play for him on 3rd down.

Lawson is pretty much a non existant pass rusher but he is very good vs the run and good in coverage. Haralson is a liability in coverage, average vs the run and he is basically an avg/inconsistent pass rusher.

Exactly! People get on Lawson that he isn't a big time pass rusher but man he plays really well vs the run, is good in pass coverage and is an okay pass rusher. Like you said the team counts on and asks Haralson to be pretty much a pass rusher and designs the scheme for him to attack the QB and outside of the AZ game and the 1st half of the Seattle game, he has basically totally dissapeared.
Now look, I am a Parys Haralson fan. I watched him play in the SEC for four years, he was a team captain on a very good Tennessee team and I remember them playing Alabama on a Sat night nationally telivised game. It was a big game and Haralson had something like a 103 degree fever and still played and ended up having 3 sacks and was hospitalized after the game. The guy is a warrior and is all football, im just not sure he is good or consistant enough to be a starter in this league. I do think he would make a very good backup/pass rush specialist.

He is ok. Nothing special but better than Tully Banta Caint.
If he can't pick his game up the rest of the season than we need to start thinking about getting a pass rusher in the draft.

I actually think Ahmad Brooks has a better chance of being a starter next year and/or long term in the NFL as a 3-4 OLB than Haralson. Brooks has more talent, better size/speed ratio and I think Brooks with some more time and coaching (remember he is only 25 and it is basically his first full year playing and learning the OLB posistion) I think Brooks can be a very good 3-4 OLB, you already know how Singletary feels about him. That being said, Brooks has to stay motivated, focused and HEALTHY.
I do look for him to get some more snaps as the season goes along. He played pretty dam well vs Minnesota and STL in limited snaps (I would say 5-8) and I can see him getting 10-15 snaps a game in the coming weeks.

I think we've already been thinking that for the past decade.

He's starting for us isn't he?
LOOK, if a better LB is on the bench, then I'm pretty sure our Hall Of Fame LB aka Head Coach, would start him ahead of Haralson. Singletary knows more than both me and you, and everyone on this board

Yeah he is the starter right now because we don't have anyone better right now.My question is (and maybe I should have stated like this) is Parys Haralson good enough to be a long term starter on this team.
