Shaun Hill played good last year under Martz. This year he's been horrible. Are you Hill guys brainwashed by losing or what? I suggest watching some games from the '80s and '90s. You know, when we had Joe Montana and Steve Young. Watch some Jeff Garcia while you're at it. You see that? Those are QBs. They win games. They don't just throw floating ducks out there and pray that the defense comes up with some points. I know we've had Tim Rattay and Steve Stenstrom as QBs lately, but try to put things into perspective a little. Answer this: if Hill was released today, do you think he'd be starting on any team? Do you think he'll even be picked up? Miami won't even pick him up. Then on top of that, everyone defends Hill and blames it on the OL. Aaron Rodgers' OL is even worse than ours, yet he just put up almost 400 yards on the same defense that Hill couldn't even muster up 200. Sorry, but you can't put lipstick on a pig. It's time to get rid of that old, beat up 1980 Volkswagon Rabbit. Putting spinners on it isn't going to make it any more attractive, just like basing our entire offense around Shaun Hill's limitations aren't going to make us a Super Bowl team.
Is Smith? No, he probably won't. But he's the guy with the most talent at QB on our team and he's sitting on the bench "learning." Learning what, only God knows. Learning how to punt with your hands. I can't believe how many people are still behind this guy after 5 games of pathetic offense. If it wasn't for SingRaye, he would've been benched already, and I truly believe that. His play has been horrendous, yet somehow, the coaching staff seems to feel that it fits their style of play. It's ridiculous. I mean, the first thing I would check for when deciding who starts is if the guy can THROW an NFL-size football with a spiral. He can't. Can he at least hit people on outs? He can't. Well, surely he makes up for it by being able to throw a deep ball. Nope. I guess he makes up for it then by being extremely mobile? Nope. Well, he's probably super smart then and can pick apart defenses? Wrong again. Well, the only other possibility then is that he has a quick release and gets rid of the ball fast. Nope. Why are we behind this guy again? "Because we're winning." OK. I'll check back if we're 3-5 and see what you guys have to say then. I was fine with Hill when we were 2-0 and looked like a playoff team. Now I'm extremely skeptical.
I'm not giving up JUST yet. The guy has one thing going for him: he has heart. I think if our defense can regroup and Gore can get going, we still have a chance to win this weak division. But like I've said a million times already, if this continues, something MUST be done, whether it's benching Hill or firing the OC. Sick of losing.

Weren't the 9ers 2-1 with Alex at QB before he got hurt? So we had a grand total of ONE "ass whooping" in 07 with Smith at the helm. 37-16 to the Steelers and it was really a lot closer than that (if not for a myriad of dropped passes) if you remember that game as well as I do. Nothing like what happened yesterday.
But is this thread about what happened yesterday, a domination on Offense, Defense, Special Teams, and coaching, or about how horrible Shaun Hill has played for the last 5 games and what is better for this team for the rest of this season and the future.
I concur. I haven't seen an ass kicking like we got yesterday since 94 and that year we went on to the Super Bowl. Only difference, we had a QB that gave us a chance to win. Now, we play hoping the defense keeps us in the game as we have a qb that can't win it. He has put together a few decent drives that we scored on to win the game but anybody playing QB in the NFL should be able to do that. What we have in Hill is a managed game and what we have in Alex is more explosive ability that this team needs. I would think that wioth Morgan showing he can get open deep and now with Crabtree that maybe we should put Alex in and take advantage of the deep passing game that we could potentially have. We don't have that with Hill.

Of course not. But can the pin the way he has played in the last 5 games on him?

I can't imagine he can play any worse than Hill has this year. Again, not just the ATL game, all 5 games this year.

Agreed. They need to see what they have in Smith though before they cut him lose and put it on Nate's back. Especially looking at how close this team is at a lot of positions.

Oh, I remember those but at the same time, that was a different team. Not a team with the 2 ranked defense for points allowed, 10th against the pass and 6th or 7th against the run. Those were teams with NO WR's. We have talent now. We have WR's and a good, quality TE. Fact is Hill cannot throw a decent pass.

That's how everyone feels now. But we can't single out Hill. He has made some clutch throws in the past 5 games. Especially in the opener against Arizona. That was a huge win. Against Seattle he didn't have to do much. Against Minnesota he played pretty good to me. I think some of you guys need to pay more attention.
He nor Smith will ever be asked to win the game this year. However Hill has shown that he can lead a successful drive. What you saw yesterday was not Shaun Hill, what you saw yesterday was not the 09 San Francisco 49ers. We were out of character the whole game

You're not getting it. You're comparing apples to oranges. The team is alot more talented now. I don't think anyone is saying "Put AS in now and we'll win the Super Bowl". The issue is Hill's job should be based on performance. Outside of a few drives, he hasn't performed, for whatever reason. Because of that, putting AS in shouldn't be out of the question. And if he doesn't show anything, then try Nate. And if he doesn't show anything, then invest a high pick in a QB next year.

I know Smith has a stronger arm. I know he's younger and more athletic. But I'll take gutsy over arm strength any day. Didn't you read what Singletary said about Hill?
"I thought he was running for his life the whole game," Singletary said.
How are you going to complete a good pass that way. So bad that now Singletary is considering benching Rachal.

Did you watch the Minnesota game? If we don't make a 10 point play at the end of the first half it's not even close. The entire offense looked bad in the game, Hill was no exception. He kind of came around in the 2nd half but not really, and that 1st half was one of the worst I've seen from a QB that I can remember. I know it's not ALL on him but we were 0-11 om 3rd downs. Considering they were stacking the box against the run all day that shines the light right on Hill.

What I saw yesterday was not any different than what I saw all year from Shaun Hill. He has not played well in one game this season.

Wow. Running for your life is a compliment now? But if he said that about Smith, you would've said, "Look. Singletary said all Smith does is run around. He should be a man and stay in the pocket."

I'm sorry to break it to ya, but neither of these guys has what it takes to be a good nfl qb. Davis is the only guy the niners have had in some time who even resembles an nfl qb. Hill and Smith both look scared in the pocket and are very inaccurate on even the short passes. On long passes neither guy has a nice looking ball. Davis has shown at least he can throw a nice looking pass.

That's what quality NFL QBs do week in and week out. Hill can barely complete a pass past the line of scrimmage when he has protection!
