Right now I'm going to make a bold statement, this front 7 is top 5 in the NFL.
P.Willis is the best defensive player in the NFL
J.Smith is playing as well as any DL in the league (maybe not J.Allen)
T.Spikes has been great
M.Lawson/P.Haralson complete one of the elite LB groups in the NFL
3 young DE's that all have alot of potential/versitility in R.McDonald, ICE, and Balmer combination has done a solid job
A.Franklin who would have believe he would be playing this well?
I believe this is the beginning of a defensive dynasty, right now if given the choice I say throw all offseason resources into the offense. Get a OT, OG and anything else we need (QB possibly). Maybe a young massive DT if one is there in round 1 or 2 that's about all.
THE D HAS ARRIVED!

If only we could generate a little more pressure up the gut. Seems the only pressure we get is from the outside, and all the QB has to do is step up and throw.

Nice, I think we might need a stud SS for the future. I'm not sure, but this might be Michael Lewis's last year.

Willis had a good sack running up the middle, so maybe those packages are being added.

I think the big holdup is our OLBs and their pass rushing ability. Haralson played like an All-Pro week one, but he's been pretty quiet since. Manny excels at everything but pass rushing. He's improving, but he's still not get to the QB on his first attempt.
I wonder if the team is waiting to see what happens with Wilfork before locking up Franklin in a long term deal. Franklin seems to get better every game and IMO, he's the most underrated player on the defense.

We generated 5 sacks last week, continuing to blitz Willis is going to be something that helps us alot I think. He's an elite player and should have the shot to change the game and I think we're figuring that out.
Lawson has been playing some good football the last couple games. Harlason has looked ok but he's getting attention from the opposing offense which is always good. They are both still young and this is their 1st full season starting and playing this type of roll great start for both of them IMO

We've changed dramatically with the same personnel as last year. With that being said, just give us a few more games (more than 4) to let our D grow as a unit. It will soon show the rest of the league that we're for real

We could upgrade at
SS....(Berry)
OLB
NT....(yes Franklin is playing great but adding a your kid into the mix could never hurt)
2011, we need to go after the best CB available.
Remember kids your only as strong as your weakest link, I think in 2011 we can have all of our holes filled and really start drafting for BPA regardless of position.

What's wrong with Michael Lewis?
NT? sure, but only 2nd day, it's not like he will make an impact until his 3rd year.
And as far as trying to draft BPA, highly unlikely, there's not one team in the NFL that doesn't have a need somewhere...

I'm sure people will disagree w/ you and pick this apart but I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'm also impressed with the solid corner play. Nate Dog is flying around making big hits & finally looking like the player we paid $90mil for & Dre Bly is playing well. I just wish he would have held on to that Favre throw. Otherwise I'm pumped about this team & can't wait for the Falcon game to start. I loves me some Sunday ticket...

Never said there is a problem with Lewis but Roman will be gone and it gives us an opportunity to get a replacement....an amazing one at that. I have no problem making Berry sit for a year and watch Lewis. Then let Berry take over and keep a great backup in Lewis.
NT would be a 3rd pick nothing first or even 2nd day unless Cody fell to the 2nd.
Our needs are almost met, if you think about it what do we NEED?
ROT-NEED
OG-NEED
OLB-We could use another guy
QB-I don't think Smith stays for very long
SS-Roman gone
That's about it and some are debatable. Sure we will always have some kind of need but we wont be looking to fill gaping holes. We will be in a better position to add quality depth across the board. If you look at the team on paper we are very young and if we resign the correct guys we can be set for many years.

Hell of a statement when they cant generate much pressure on key passing downs. This will kill them when teams pick that up.

ROT NEED Agreed! Has been forever! Still is. Fix it already! (I like Snyder but as much as he might not like it he's better coming off the bench as a jack of all trades)
OG NEED Agreed! Chilo and Bass are weak links on the line. Draft one more, let the best two of the three on the field, and help our depth. Or let Wragge play if he's better, even though the other two are the future, until they are as reliable.
OLB Agreed. We do need another guy unless Brooks proves something but a stud rusher could be an impact player and create needed depth.
QB Disagree. Please don't draft another QB. Alex has the tools and Nate has even better tools. This time next year they will be improved. Drafting a QB is always a risk, would push someone off the roster, and be starting over. Given time Nate and/or Alex will be good.
SS Agreed, but generalized to secondary. Our corners are good but aging (Walt and Dre) and you can't have too many. Lewis is good at what he is asked to do but someone who could do more would be better.

Walt is in the last year of his contract and I think we let him walk. Bly has been great at what we have asked him to do and I would have no issues giving him a 2 year deal. Brown is the big question mark but he still give real good depth, if a top tier CB was available next year I wouldn't have an issue drafting one. If Berry is available we have to pull the trigger...no questions asked. Let him sit and learn then unleash him!!
