There's been so much good news with this team lately (3-1 start, stellar defense, Crabtree signing) that I can't help but thinking to the next level. Based on everything we know as of now, what is the current state of our QB situation?
Elaboration on choices:
1. Shaun Hill is proving himself to be an NFL starter and is only 29. Our QB position is covered for the next several years and is not a concern at all.
2. Hill has played admirably, but is ultimately a band-aid. However, Nate Davis has shown so much promise as to foreclose the need to find a "QB of the future." He's the guy.
3. Former #1 pick Alex Smith is still the answer, and will somehow ascend above Hill in the next year or two.
4. Our entire QB stable (Hill as a starter, Smith/Davis as backups/prospects) is serviceable and respectable, but finding a blue-chip QB next year is still a high priority.

We have to draft another QB high. I know it sucks but we have to try.
And York better do whatever it takes to get in an OC who is a good QB developer and ensure the man stays for at least 3 years.
And we need to draft a pass protecting O-Lineman high.
A pocket, A QB, an OC, Crabtree, Vernon, GoreCoffee, Morgan.....then we can start talking about making a run at it

That does sound like a pretty good combination.

Shaun is doing fine thus far, so the QB situation is solved for this and at least next year in my eyes. The plan should be to leave Hill alone, let Nate develop for two years, and think about drafting a QB this draft if the opportunity presents itself.

I beleive in the old Bill Walsh philosophy...even if you have Joe Montana, you are still looking for the next guy to step in & take over. The 49ers don't seem to have that philosphy anymore, and the results show with their offense the last several years.

Hill as number 1. Bump Davis to number 2. Davis learns directly from Hill. If Hill goes down, we give the reigns to Davis. Lets teach Davis the skills before we set him loose ala Aaron Rodgers.
Alex Smith can be promoted to waterboy. Even thats too much, IMO, but Im willing to compromise.....

exactly, you have to have VISION. Franchises that just react, and think of "this year" never win anything

I think Smith gets another shot, otherwise why did they resign him? I do not buy that they would pay someone that they didn't think could get the job done. He looked as good as Hill in the preseason, and in the raiders game, he looked better than Hill. Hill is the starter because Smith didn't clearly outplay him, but who is to say that it doesn't happen next season? If this doesn't happen then you have to get Davis in there for a shot, or draft another one and cross your fingers. I am not impressed by any of the QB's coming out of college this coming up year, I thought Snead might be good, but after seeing him play a couple of games this year, he is incredibly inconsistent and has times where he looks like he doesn't even belong out there.

me neither, which is why I am certain the Niners actually draft one of them

My take:
1. Cut Rossum and Spurlock, frees up two roster spots. (Crabtree has one open spot)
2. Pick up Brian Brohm off Green Bay's practice squad.
3. keep 4 QB's this year.
4. Cut our losses with Alex Smith.
5. Develop Nate Davis and Brian Brohm for the future, a veteran can always be picked up.

If you feel it's too early to vote in the poll, you are more than welcome to simply not vote in the poll. Thanks.

I'd like to give Shaun Hill and the Quarterbacks currently on the roster the opportunity to compete this season. Obviously, Hill is the starter unless his performance declines or is injured.
If Hill took the team to the playoffs and played at a high level necessary to carry the team long term, I see no reason to spend a first day pick on a Quarterback. Moving forward, I'd like to see Davis and Hill compete for the job within the next few seasons.

Any option works really, except for #4. I don't expect us to go after any QB unless someone so dominant that we can't pass on him falls to us.
I'd be quite all right with either Alex or Nate earning the right to start over Hill.

But I have such a mancrush on this Locker guy, and we have an extra first rounder...
