I was at the game. Sure some of the playcalling was suspect but Hill still played like crap. He was staring down his wrs and throwing ducks. It was probably the worst Hill performance I have ever seen. Sadly, he's the best we have until Nate Davis can get up to speed on the playbook.

I know it's just preseason but we have reason to be concerned when our qb plays like crap and our defense still can't generate a consistent passrush.

Btw: The raiders defense gave up 537 yards of offense to the Saints last night.

Hill didn't exactly light it up last preseason either. After all, he was beat out by J.T. O' Sullivan. Something happens when the season begins though. A lot of people are saying 9 wins is extremely optimistic. Is it? We're basically the same team last year and throw in a few additions. I can very easily see us go 7-9, especially if AZ has a bad year, which sometimes happens after a Super Bowl loss. I think the 49ers should be somewhere between 7-9 and 10-6, depending on the QBs and pass rush.

Yes, I saw that box score and 40+ points I believe. The raiders defense sucks terribly. I did not see the game yet, It is on at 3am I believe on NFL network. I am not really impressed however with the rest of the preseason.

I have the first two games on dvr and I am seriously concerned about the offense and the leader of the o which is the QB..like I have been b***hing about for years because it has sucked for years. I really wish they would have addressed it better this off season. Go Niners!!

he was doing this crap in the broncos and raiders game too...
think about it nothing changed from last year except Coffee. Crap not signed yet so we are the same team as last year. No pass rush, same starting QB same starting RB and the Same starting WR's , What changed. And I blame Sing for it , think about it , if he opens his trap and say the Rock will go to 21 then 21 is not doing his job. Actuly Coffee looked better than Gore Moving the pile but that just me. we are the same team no playoffs again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-8 if we are lucky ! and they want a Stadium !

Of course it is predominantly the same team. The question is, will it play the same way? Remains to be seen

Where do I start? It just looked like deja vu all over again last night. We couldn't pass block, we couldn't get the ball to our WR's, our defense could not get off the field, we miss used timeouts, had a lot of penalty's and made some very questionable/conservative coaching decisions. It looked like the 07 season.

I worry Jimmy Raye is just not creative enough to do much with this offense and that just don't have the weapons. Our O-Line still looks like they can't pass block that well and teams will just attack us and dare us to throw because our WR's can't get open quick enough and don't scare anyone. Josh Morgan looks like all hype right now, man he has looked bad in the pre-season, he caught no passes and dropped two balls he had a chance to make a catch on. Arnaz Battle is our best WR right now, scary...

We have no pass rush again. We banked on Manny Lawson developing into a pass rusher and right now that looks like a really bad gamble. Now Ahmad Brooks is hurt, it's not looking good.

I think our D will tighten up and play better once the regular season starts, Clements right now looks like a weak link and we still have problems stopping team on 3rd and short and 3rd and long. I like what I see from Goldson, he will start making big plays once he gets more time. But we have NO pass rush what so ever.

Okay, guys who impressed me vs Dallas (weren't many)

Nate Davis- Ill tell u, he looked good against the Raiders and he looked even better vs Dallas. He just seems to have "it". He has great poise in the pocket along with a quick release and a cannon for an arm. I don't know how he would do against a starting defense but I like this kid, I think he has a chance to be a starter in this league and a good one.

Kory Sheets- Really like this kid, he should have been a 4th or 5th rd pick but got screwed by the Purdue coaching staff. He is a quick back with very good speed but he also has good vision and he finishes his runs really well and has some pop. There is no question he will make the team now the only question is what # he will get since him and Reggie Smith both wear #30 right now.

Tarrell Brown- He really, really played. He has really fluid, smooth hips and closes well and is always in the right posistion.

Brit Miller- this guy just seems to get the job done.

Michael Spurlock- I think he beat out Jason Hill last night

Bottom line though I am worried, I think this is the same team from last year and that is not good. McCloughan did not improve this team and we are seeing the results right now. I also worry about Singletary, is he going to be a Nolan like conservative coach now that he is no longer an interim coach? I also worry he made a bad decision firing Mike Martz. Martz was a very good OC and PLAY CALLER and I think he made Shuan Hill and our WR's look better than they really are. Jimmy Raye I don't think is going to make anyone better with his scheme or playcalling. I know Singletary gives a great speech and gets the guys ready to play, but that only lasts for a quarter after that guys have to make plays and im not sure he has playmakers. I worry Singletary will just become another Herm Edwards. Right now the only thing I am excited about this team is Nate Davis and our rookie RB's, thats not a good sign. I thought we could win 8 or 9 games this season but now if you ask me I think we are a 6-10 team.

I am worried....

Yes, I'm a bit concerned about Clements myself. He really hasn't shown too much since being with us, except for getting beat deep and VERY VERY soft coverage.

I all but gar-un-tee another losing season. Scotty blew it when he depended on Smith at RT. Scotty blew it when he did NOTHING in the offseason to address the rush. Imo this team is going to perform worse then last season.

Use the preseason excuse all you want, but our offense has looked like garbage, and when your offense is garbage, your defense struggles. It is going to be a looooooong season. Roast me all you want nay-sayers, but lets save and revisit this thread in 4 months.

yea people acted like they expected sing to fix everything. this team is good enough to win 8 or 9 teams imo. this team has its strengths and weaknesses. right now the only thing that makes me real worried is the combination of raye's offense and shaun letting us down.

But that is a really big thing. If Raye is Hostler 2.0 and Hill underperforms in that scheme then it is going to be a long, miserable season.

The problem with Hostler was his inexperience. You can look at Raye and tell he has plenty f experience calling plays. I mean if Hostler would've used Vernon Davis right he probably would've kept his job.

Actually Vernon Davis had his best year with Hostler as OC, he had 50+ catches that year. I think Hostler's biggest problem is he didn't know how to call plays. That is going to be the big test for Raye, can he call the right play at the right time and under pressure. Martz was a great playcaller, Norv Turner is a great player caller I don't think Raye will be a great play caller but I hope he can at least be a good one.

I think that was the worse I have ever Shuan Hill play. He just didn't look like an NFL quarterback. He looked scared, slow and I know he has never had the arm but he was just throwing ducks all over the field. Im hoping it was just a bad game as he did not get much practice time during the week and hopefully the O-Line can do a better job of pass blocking.

I think/hope Clements is dogging it in the pre-season, but then again he kind of seemed to dog it last season. I just worry he plays to far off and doesen't have the closing speed he used to. It could be he is just setting people up and come the regular season u will see him closing in and making plays, I hope....
This is what you get when you call vanilla plays. The coaching staff is only using these games to work on individual matchups. People cry about pass rush but how many times did we only bring 3-4 guys after the QB?

The only things I didn't like were the WRs not getting the separation and the horrible throws by Hill.

Coffee missed a couple key blocks but that should improve as the season continues.

Yeah the WR's were not getting any seperation and will that change during the regular season? I don't think it will, maybe if we get Crabtree in here this week he can help in Nov and December and Brandon Jones will help some, but I can't see Raye creating a creative scheme and making these guys look better than they are.

I do think Martz made these WR's (and offense?) look better than they really are

Martz also decimated our run game.

But maybe with utilizing more of Davis and Walker will free up our WRs a tad. Plus we still have Bruce who hasn't played all that much this preseason. He may have lost a step but his routes should be spot on and create a threat(fingers crossed).

somehow my post got buried in the quote lol.

Wow. A lot is being made out of the preseason and the "dress rehearsal" game 3 vs. the Cowboys. First off, everyone should be aware the preseason is a time for a lot of experimentation and evaluation of personnel. The play books aren’t exactly opened up. Granted the game against the Cowboys didn’t look good by any means. However, the cowboys didn’t exactly look super dominant. The patriots didn’t look super dominant against the redskins. Look around the league, has any other team exploded onto the scene. Maybe you could argue that the Saints destroyed the Raiders, but are the Saints going to be the power house favorite coming out of the NFC....probably not. So chill out! Let the season unfold and lets see where this team goes. I’m not going to say 8-8, 6-10 or 15-1. I think we have enough to compete for the division. Lets concentrate on that. The playoffs are 5 months away. A lot can happen in 5 months. You guys have a lot of negativity! I thought the west coast was more laid back that what is on this forum. You guys sound like a bunch of east coasters!
