so it wasnt THAT bad. "that" being the keyword. which means in the end it was still bad, but not THAT bad.

We will know after the Arizona game and the defense is blitzing and game planning, until then all we know is what the 49ers tell us... That they have played vanilla.

My only hope is that the Niners were holding back their blitz-packages until the season begins and using only vanilla rushes in the pre-season. If they weren't, then the D is going to get chewed up and spit out this year.
why is there any reason to expect we will have a good rush in the regular season? we have the same exact team as last year. we have the same coaches as last year meaning we have the same schemes.

i suppose we can rest our hopes on:

1. playing a true 3-4 all year, not a hybrid
2. haralson becoming better. he has shown signs of being very capable pass rusher and SHOULD get better
3. manny lawson.... yeah, i just don't see it happening. he is an excellent coverage LB (arguably as good as julian peterson was for us in coverage), but he just doesn't have the speed or the strength to beat tackles
4. someone steps up in the middle. justin smith is obviously going to produce but he can't do it all and he is going to suffer if we don't get a push from the NT (which we haven't)

im trying not to be a whiny little b***h about the upcoming season, its just frustrating to see that we have a pretty decent secondary, pretty good lb group, and then we get f**ked with the defensive line.

Is that like explaining to your dad that AT LEAST you didn't get an "F" ... a D- isn't that bad. Compared to an F?

cant run an effective 3-4 without a true 3-4 NT. cant do it.

Not really. We didn't address the need so how are we going to improve in that area? Unless we come up with some clever blitzes? At this point, I don't know how good that will work since Nate Clements is looking like Antonio Langham.
