Not not really but I think we could have and should have moved to a 4-3 Defense this offseason. We would have also had an easier time finding players who could fit that defense in both the draft and FA, and I believe we could have had a stronger defensive unit.
I think we would be in the minority on that, but yes. I'm a fan of the 3-4, but I would never want to run one without an impact NT. I know we would then have uncertainties of our rush DL, but I think we have some decent possibilities in-house. As you said, we could always have leaned on this draft for another DE rusher.
It is what it is though. Not gonna gripe about it now.
It is what it is and I too like the 3-4 but am not all for it without the impact NT. As for a rush DE had we gone 4-3....Everette Brown, Connor Barwin & Paul Kruger were all still on the board in the 2nd or we could have moved up slightly in the 3rd for Michael Johnson. Greg Ellis who was recently released and then signed by Oakland would have been another good option and there were rumors the Raiders wanted to trade Derrick Burgess.
so no one thinks he should be blitzed more?

He should not be blitzed more,he should be blitzed, but only infrequently as he is a tackling machine and MLB's are not defined by the sack,he is our stopper first,Haralson and Lawson are gonna be the sack people.

I wouldn't blitz him very much, no.
He's a great sideline to sideline player that covers so much ground that blitzing him would create a big hole in our front 7. I'm sure he could blitz and be effective as he seems to excel at whatever they ask him to do, but he's simply more valuable playing Mike imo.

Yes, I agree... As long as Willis is our MLB, he should be blitzing only a handful of times per game. Imagine if the offense runs a draw play on such a blitz. Franklin will be put on his back and useless... Takeo will have an OG on him... so if Willis blitzes the wrong hole or somehow misses the RB, we are screwed. Now if Willis can be locked onto the RB and therefore be able to delay blitz (recognizing the RB staying in to block), that works for me.

If Manny Lawson steps up and turns into a sack machine, we won't be having this conversation.

As often as he wants.
Seriously, if he blitzes then there is 90% of the field that he is not covering and we need him everywhere which iswhy he doesn't blitz as often.
Man how long do we have to run the 3-4 before people keep thinking we should go back to a 4-3 defense. I know we don't have a true nose tackle but why change the positions of 6 other players to make up for one spot. We even ran the 4-3 under Nolan sometimes and it didn't help at all. I'm just waiting for someone to say we should run the 5-2, 4-6 or the Tampa two while explaining how are players will magically perform better and are just perfect for this new system. We are now a 3-4 team and almost all of our players were brought in specifically to play in it. Last year we even performed quite well but still more of this 4-3 nonsense. I bet even if we were #1 in D there would still be these 4-3 posts.

just tryin to help spread some knowledge when its sorely needed.
Point blank to answer the question; not enough. Willis almost always gets pressure every time we send him in. I think he should blitz WAY more than he does. I saw him in practice during drills for backs to pick up blitzing LB's. No one even came close to blocking him. He's a future HOFer. He's always the best player on the field. On a sure passing play, send him in. I don't see why he can't be as effective as LT was. Manny can cover. Send in Patrick.

I never understood why we dont blitz our ILBs more. Willis had 4 sacks his rookie year and takeo spikes has had success rushing the passer before he was a niner
