I just wonder if they would rename "Top Gun" and call if "The Falcon" or name "The Grizzly" "The Bear". ;-)
They already re-named top gun It's called Flight Deck now. Lame as f**k.
It used to be Paramounts Great America. They must have changed it then.
I remember when it was Marriot's Great America
Anyone remember "The Demon"?
Of course! I remember going through that tunnel with the lights.
Uhhh, I may be mistaken but isn't "The Demon" still there?
Wow!!!! It is?? I would have thought they would have replaced that a long time ago. I haven't been to Great America since - well when it was still Marriott's Great America - and they had just built "The Grizzly".
OMG OMG OMG - They got rid of "The Tidal Wave"????? Awwwwl man.....
Wow Marriots Great America The last time I went was when the Top Gun ride came out and it was Paramounts Great America.
Awesome, thanks for the trip down memory lane. My first roller coaster ride. I waited in line with my step brother and his friend, (both older than me) while they tormented me, telling me how some kid had been killed on it the year before and how it was the scariest ride EVER....
Yeah, I spent all day on that damn ride after that....
The Demon!!!
Not sure it would even be in the top 25 roller coasters nowadays.
ROFL! Please tell me they still play that cheesy song:
The Demon
It's gonna getchuuuuu....
The Demon
It's gonna getchuuuuu
ROFL!!!!!
LOL!!!
Yeah, I haven't been there in years (1991 was the last time), so not sure about the song, but I would love to take my kids.
I actually just took the AP physics class I taught this year there last Friday. I hadn't been there for years but it felt long in the tooth. Its changed hands so many times and every time they do a band-aid job on the names and decor of the place (like Top Gun to Flight Deck when Paramount sold since they produced and own the rights to the movie). The line for top gun was all air craft carrier themed with TVs that showed clips of the movie. The TVs are still there but they're just turned off. There is still an air craft carrier theme but all the top gun specific logos were painted over. It looks half baked. The feeling is pretty consistent throughout the park. But, the rides are fun and bring back some serious memories. The demon was my first roller coaster too.
Yes, the Demon is definitely still there and called the demon. There isn't any sound playing in line anymore though like one of you mentioned.

They still play that. Right in the beginning in the tunnel before you drop. But the sound is all distorted from age I guess
I thought it was called the "Whizzer". Talk about dangerous - you basically had a seat belt that wrapped around 3 people. And I remember when someone did die on that coaster.
Yeah, I thought it was called the Whizzer too, and I totally remember hearing that some kid was killed on it. That thing was ridiculousy dangerous. I think I rode it once, and that was enough for me.

It was so long ago, but I'm pretty sure it was Willards Wizzard. As soon as I seached that name it came up with some news about that kid dieing on it.
