Its clearly the least desirable job yet most Cards fans here are in denial. No QB, no high draft pick, so so GM, some good talent on defense but also the oldest roster in football. They are in a weird place between needing a full rebuild and competing for the playoffs.

Glad to see another team stuck with that label, so much has changed in the last year.

Lets give them a 2nd,AA and CJ Beat' for Fitz

What Kyle did in Atlanta tells me he was ready to be a HC in all facets. There was no doubt. Very similar to his father's stint with the Niners before going to Denver. I wanted Kyle bad, but I was sure he's going to go to Denver.

But once he picked the Niners. I love him even more. He wants to rebuild and go through the hardships with us. The WCO, the history, the bright football mind, and the coaching tradition, coming back to the Niners.

Kyle in 2017 was everything I expected out of the hire.

Completely agree. Harbaugh aside it's been a long time (almost 40 years) since we had a win like this and Shanahan is a much better prize than Harbaugh. He will bring us #6+.

When that dilemma is present the correct answer is always full rebuild, because the odds of being able to restock are so low, with just the smallest amount of turmoil being able to derail such a process.

Surging Niners + surging Rams + Wilson in Seattle once a year + no starting QB. Cards are toast in 2018

It's almost exactly like the Niners at the end of 2014 only difference is Bruce Arians resigned/retired for his own personal reasons instead of getting forced out. You could also equate them having absolutely no QB to us having Borland, Willis and Cowboy all retire the same time along with Gore leaving. Not to mention Aldon having royally f**ked up once again before the season even started. Different scenarios but basically the same result between the two teams, 3 years later. OK so actually our 2015 off-season is still worse than their current off-season. I see the similarities though, they also think they can sort of reload the roster just like Baalke tried to pretend he was doing until Jed finally realized he had to blow the whole thing up and start over after yet another one-and-done coach hiring with Kelly
It's probably going to be pretty quiet on the coaching front until late Sunday at least.

I really can't see Tomlin getting fired, especially from an organization with as much coaching security as the Steelers. Dude is the second-most successful head coach in the league (say all you want about Pete Carroll. Tomlin has a better winning percentage, just as many Super Bowl rings and appearances, more conference championship appearances and division titles and has never had a losing record. I would be SHOCKED if Pittsburgh let him go and he'd be one of the hottest coaching candidates on the market probably ever).
Sometimes a coaching change is needed for both parties to freshen things up a bit.

Bad organizations make that kind of move. Freshen things up? Let go of a guy that has never had a losing record in eleven years is a recipe for disaster. Some may argue because they have a franchise QB. Even franchise QBs have had losing records (Drew Brees says hello).

Every head coach has an expiration date and if your team stops buying what the coach is selling, even if they are still winning games, it is time to move on. If your roster is absolutely loaded like Pittsburgh's is and you continually come up short, eventually you run out of excuses.

They went 13-3. You don't risk that. 49ers fans should know how hard it is to find and how important a good coach is. If you've got a good coach and players are being divas or just not buying in, you let the players go. That's how the Steelers have always thought and it's no coincidence they are consistently good decade after decade.

Players are easier to replace than coaches.
It's important these days as a HC to hire a coordinator that can also be the fall guy. That's the key to longevity if you're not consistently winning and going to the SB like Belichick.

Carroll is getting senile lol.
