Think that really makes a difference? A shorter preseason is only going to keep mileage off of guys who will be out of the NFL, practice squad players or special team guys. Most guys playing a lot of snaps in the last 6 quarters of preseason don't make NFL rosters, those that do fill out the last roster spots.

They can extend the season without adding a game. I believe the TV contracts hold more weight than the money made during the 8 home games. Heard this idea and it would be huge if the NFL takes advantage of it.
Give every team 3 BYE weeks. This means games are still played during those weeks so you can televise more games (2 extra weeks worth) and get a larger TV payout deal. This will also please the player union and hit the safety matter along with caring for the players and giving them more time to heal since injuries play such a large role. It allows a better chance for teams to be at full strength going into the end of the season. Since televised games increases, you can get rid of 2 of the preseason games since nobody really watches it on TV anyway.
