How is this news? If the headline was "random coal worker squishes kid" would we ever hear about it?
No. Because we all know the name Todd Heap. Therefore it is relevant somehow.
People die every day. Bad things happen to good people we have never heard of all the time.
Too bad for his loss. Pay attention when driving. Just a thought.

Anything that happens to a recognizable athlete is news in the sports world. If I know when some former lineman gets arrested for nothing you will hear about this.

Actually there was a story a few years ago about a random guy that backed over his son playing inside a pile of leaves. Its a tragedy.
Obviously not every tragedy gets reported, but when they do, you have some empathy, not get cynical. Freak accidents happen, so simplifying it to "pay attention" is pretty cold.

Not sure how their marriage can survive. She could be the nicest woman that ever existed and still struggle to not be reminded of her dead daughter everytime she looks at him.
That and I dont know how he gets through it. I dont know how you get through that amount of pain without it ever destroying a part of you.
I am sure they will get plenty of support from the local community, especially the Mormon community but I just can't imagine the amount of grief they are dealing with. What a tragedy.
Ah jeez that poor little girl.

Not to dismiss the tragedy of this, but marriages have survived far worse. They have several other kids to live for, and their religion includes the belief of an eternal united family, including being able to continue raising their now deceased daughter after her resurrection. Tragedy can destroy people as you say, but it can also refine them and give them resolve to live (or continue to live) positive lives, including leaning on a spouse through such an event.
