I'm guessing there will be an NT rotation but Purcell might be in danger of getting bumped off the roster considering how Smith has looked.

If roster cuts happened today then I think it stands to reason that Rush, Bellore, and Garrison Smith are all guys that have made cases to stick on the roster and all were complete after thoughts just a couple of weeks ago.

He's outplayed Purcell and is more athletic and versatile. He has to make the team IMO

Fact- recent history proves that the Niners are just better off when a guy named Smith is on the D Line.
Last preseason Purcell showed a big motor, and he was one of Coach JimTom's guys. May be a different decision moving forward.

For sure...that's how I see it as well. Purcell was someone I thought could start to jump off the screen this year but he's really a one-gap slasher. Smith is more prototypical 2-gap, like Dorsey. Smith fits if he keeps it up. He always seems to be in the right spots when I watch him. Great sign.

I think it's Dorsey, not Purcell that needs to be worried.
Put Dorsey on IR or PUP or whatever and let Smith, Purcell, and Dial duke it out for the NT spot.
LE: Buckner/Dial
NT: Smith/Purcell
RE: Armstead/Blair
Lots of young talent

Purcell might be in trouble because he's really only an NT whereas guys like Dial, Dorsey, TJE and Smith can be put anywhere on the DL.

True but you already have those types of players. Smith and Purcell are situational type players to stop the run

same here. not a fan of purcell at all. He made some good plays last year in preseason and everyone was on his nuts.

I've been a fan of Purcell since I first saw him. That said, Garrison has been great to watch, and maybe has a better nose for the ball...or some such. Whatever, I would like to keep both, but that won't happen. I will be happy with either, but would be tough to cut garrison.

Agreed. I would be shocked if he doesn't make the team
