The NFL's top health and safety officer acknowledged Monday there is a link between football-related head trauma and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.
This is the first time a senior NFL official has conceded to football's connection to the brain disease.
The admission came during a roundtable discussion on concussions convened by the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Energy & Commerce. Jeff Miller, the NFL's senior vice president for health and safety, was asked by Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., if the link between football and neurodegenerative diseases like CTE has been established.
"The answer to that question is certainly yes," said Miller.
CTE can only be diagnosed after death.
"I think the broader point, and the one that your question gets to, is what that necessarily means, and where do we go from here with that information" Miller said.

They really had to at some point, it's kind of stating the obvious now.
First step to overcoming a problem is admitting you have one. American Football needs to be at the forefront of research, development & safety from here on out. (In many respects they already are)
I'd confidently say my 2nd favourite sport of Rugby Union has a CTE issue of its own, buried in history. There have been plenty of signs & indicators that it exists there & players from the past suffer similarly. They have already taken some measures, but hopefully in the future they join the efforts against CTE more intensely for the benefit & future of both sports & their participants.

They must have had a team of lawyers working on this for a while.

According to MMQB Bruce Arians says he's sick and tired of people bashing football. Said peope telling their kids they don't want them playing football are fools. Yeah it's really his prerogative to tell parents what to do with their own kids. He's a damn fool.

Smashing your head into another player over and over again causes brain damage?
I'm shocked.
