Don't give a f**k what these players do as long as we win.
Like we did under Harbaugh

I have been skeptical of that organization for over a decade. They have a history of player discipline issues, both on and off the field. I like what I have heard about Jackson and his offense but am skeptical of someone who was comfortable coaching there. He had to see that there were issues and chose to ignore them, OR he didn't see them or overlooked the potential problems. Of course, he may have seen them but didn't have the power to force behavioral changes.
MODS: If this steps on the toes of the regular thread, feel free to merge. I believe this is worth focusing on just this issue.
As long as he can demonstrate the lessons learned. Nobody is perfect, he was younger and has had time to reflect on his previous tenure as HC. What does matter is he seems to have a measure of success wherever he goes. This is football, this is a career for everybody involved and it's a business. This is not about hiring someone who's going to be everybody's friend. We saw where that got us this season.
This team doesn't need someone who's going to struggle for power openly (Chip), nor does it need a buddy (Tomsula). It needs someone respectful but with the balls to be able to discuss issues with the GM and deal with players. The boat needs to rock a little bit.
Learning from previous experience is the key. If he has learned anything at all from the past four years it should be that you must sort out the guys who can potentially harm the team by their attitude and actions and get rid of them. Marv Lewis was given some problem players by the owner/GM and he was not able to deal with them for whatever reason and it cost them a playoff run. Jackson had a front row seat for all of that and should have learned from it.
I don't know how much influence Jackson may have had on Lewis but it has become clear that the problem of player discipline was well known within the locker room and the football community in Cincy. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that Lewis may not have been willing to listen to anyone about how to discipline those players. I will not assume that Jackson didn't know about it. If nothing else, he knew about the penalties and fines this dreck had accumulated. If he understood the problem, and though not able to correct it himself, and would vow to make sure that never happened under a future watch as HC, then he will have learned one of the most valuable lessons a HC can learn: You can have undisciplined players running amuck within the team no matter how talented they are.
The test could come if Mike Brown bows to the pressure to fire Lewis for his repeated inability to control his players. If that happens, will Jackson accept an offer to step up to HC in Cincy or decide to get away from the stench?
I would expect that Lewis will get the axe quickly IF Brown has aspirations of making Hue the HC.

I'm not sure what the OC has to do with two known thugs on the defensive side of the ball......

My question revolves around the reality that everyone on the staff and all of the players knew that there was an issue with Jones and particularly Burfict for a good part of the season. It has also been implied that there were other discipline issues on the team that were allowed to exist.
As one of the two most powerful members of the coaching staff, it is fair to ask whether or not Jackson used his influence to conform those players to reasonable behavior standards. If I were Baalke, that would comprise an important part of the conversation with Hue Jackson because it is clear that Ray McDonald, Brooks and Aldon Smith damaged the image of this franchise with their uncontrolled conduct and that sort of thing cannot and will not be tolerated in the future. How Hue Jackson would deal with those issues if he were to be hired could be a deal killer if he does not have an acceptable answer.

How is this a thread? Hue is the OC, not the HC or even the DC. Everything you are talking about is on the defensive side of the ball. lulz

When you have guys w/ bad character like those two idiots, its the risk you take. None of that is Hue's fault IMO

wish we had a player like Burfict. Dude single handedly won them the game, then Hill went and gave it away.

The guy certainly has flaws.
If he's the very best candidate we're in for a bump ride.

??? Those were Marvin Lewis's guys. He did some sort of plea with them the morning before the game to not act out or cause stupid penalties and we saw what happened. Hue has nothing to do with that.

No we're not. We just had the bumpiest ride possible. There's a reason teams without coaches are trying to land him.
