Do you even run though?

I've been watching this stat the past three weeks. Now that the regular season is finished and the stats are compiled it can officially be declared that running the ball is dead in the NFL.

Only seven players rushed for more than 1000 yards this season. SEVEN!

Of those seven that topped 1000 yards for the season, FOUR barely made it. We potentially could have had only three 1000-yard rushers for the 2015 season.

Conclusion- Running backs are now vastly overrated, teams need simply to draft offensive linemen that can pass block, quarterback IS the most important position on the field, teams need to stock up on wide receivers and cornerbacks, the fullback position is an extinct position, and a Nickel defense may be the best base defense to select.

The 49ers are currently not built for any of this.
Its the changing of the guard.

Pass defense is all you need nowadays.

Look at the chiefs, seahawks, Cardinals etc.

Lol running the ball isn't dead, having one running back with a huge majority of the carries is. I agree with focusing on OL, rushing the passer, and DB's via the draft though.

Lol
Also though right now it seems like teams are using alot more running backs than usual than the traditional 3 down back.

and certain teams that usually always have 1000 yard rushers seen their running backs get injured like leveon bell, jamall Charles and a few other big running backs that missed a few games this season.

Then u also have quarterbacks like cam and Russell taking away almost 500+ yards if not more on the ground from their running backs, it all adds up.

So u have say 3 teams that won't have a 1000+ rusher because they have qbs who rush for so many yards.

Then u have the occasional injury to the stud running back each year. So say good bye to another 2 teams that would have a 1000 yd rusher.

Then u have a few more teams where u get suspensions/ injuries for multiple games like hamstrings etc. as u can tell it all adds up. Then add on that the NFL has really switched to a 1, 2 punch with running backs. Gone are the days where running backs were getting paid huge bucks. Teams learned what the 49ers learned years ago. Running backs are a dime a dozen. Just look at the chiefs. Lose arguably the best running back in football, never has not averaged less than 5yards a carry in a season, yet they go on a 10 game win streak and their running backs pick up the slack like its no big deal.
A balanced offense is never out of style. One helps the other. The problem is a general lack of talent coming out. How many first round RB's have we seen the last few years?

That's more of a product of the shift towards the passing game and change in rules than it is a lack of talent among RB's. The same running back that would have gone late first 10 years ago is now going in the second round because RB's are less valuable in a passing friendly league. There are actually so many talented RB's that it makes more sense to draft them later on - guys like David Johnson and Karlos Williams are available in the mid-rounds so why waste a first round pick on the position? OT's and pass rushers are as important as ever because if you give a QB time in this era with these rules, he's going to pick you apart.

FB's are dying and one dimensional RB's are too. Now your RB needs to be able to pass protect and catch out of the backfield.
