Sometimes the greatest of players can make the dumbest decisions. Harbaugh was handing Peyton the SB trophy on a silver platter back in 2012. A dominant defense, good STs, and a QB away from having a potent offense boasting guys like Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree.

We wouldve easily won it all in 2012 (imagine Manning-Brady bowl for the championship), obviously won in 2013, and couldve beat the Hawks in 2014 in the NFCC. Potential for 3-peat and even if Manning wins 2 of those 3, he goes down easily as the GOAT.

Instead, he bites on Elway's offer (maybe he didnt want to compete with baby brother in the NFC) and he will leave the game playing second fiddle to Brady, not to mention join the ranks of great regular season QBs that choked in the playoffs.

Sometimes you have to be greedy as a player, and Peyton made the ultimate legacy killer move by not joining Harbs when he had the chance.

Thoughts ?

Would have been hard to win it win Manning in 2011 when he wasn't a FA in 2011. It was in between 2011 and 12 when he was a FA.
No guarantee we would have won the SB with Peyton. Denver's teams were stacked with talent too, and they failed to win it.

That's been the legacy of Manning's career. Most prolific QB statistically, but fell short in the playoffs more than he should have.
I agree, but your off by 1 year, Manning wasn't on the Free Agent Market until the 2012 off season. But i totally think he had real shot of winning back to back SB's with the Niners. Also, just think if it went down that way there is no way Harbs isn't still our coach right now. Plus Kap would still be a backup learning the game from one of the GOAT's.

You need to edit again. How can we 3-peat if he wasn't here in 2011? We only made 2 NFCC games after that. Unless you figure Manning would have saved what was the 2014 season and took us to the SB.

The 49ers would've choked with Manning
You still include 2011 as a year he could have won it all for us. A Brady - Manning SB? That was 2011 again, Manning was on IR.

Jim Harbaugh vs John Fox...which coach is better suited to managing a talented but aging QB.

Peyton wanted to win but he wanted to do it on his terms. I think
he could have been successful in Harbaugh's offense and would have had plenty of latitude to change calls at the line. With Crabtree, Moss, Manningham, Delanie and VD he would have had plenty of targets and a strong run game and one of the top defenses to share the load.

Yeah he dun goofed.
His legacy is one and done. Many of them.
Harbaugh probably wouldn't have let Peyton run his style of offense, which is why he opted not to come here.
