I am not overly fond of the idea (unless we have a QB to groom behind him from rounds 1 or 2 next year) , He has the best WR in the game, theyve always tried giving him weapons year after year. Last year was there only winning season in recent memory, i know in 2013-2012, they didnt have winning seasons so i cant imagine it was better before those years either. But I've been reading that his future with the Lions is unclear after this year, and suppsedly theres teams really interested in him
But point being, Do we bring him in IF we draft a QB next year say in round 1? Im just curious on ideas/opinions of other posters because I really cant figure out where i stand on this one and its forced me to create a thread about it. I mean when you throw the most in the league your bound to put up numbers, but 5k Yards 41TD 16 INT is no joke regardless if u are throwing like crazy. And that year was his highest rating year.
I rarely watch the lions so I dont know anything except stats and what ive been paying attention to this year and the last couple of years. From a stat point of view he looks like an exciting QB to watch, but is going to make mistakes that can cost us games. However, If we are drafting a QB in round 1, I would actually feel kindve excited if we brought him in. And then if we didnt draft a QB next season id feel just 50/50 on him coming to town. Excited because hes going to be putting up big numbers like other great QB's and alot of TD's, but a little bummed because his ceiling seems to have already hit, and its just about getting him to play back to his ceiling. With all the talk of Kap being gone next season, and some potential articles about Stafford being gone, it seems like a move that the York's might just make in order to save the sinking ship.

Should we acquire Matt Stafford for 2016?

Kaep's read ability level with a zippy arm, but no mobility. No thanks.

Always thought he was overrated. Cap hit of 11 million or so?
Rather go with a young guy and build through the draft than a retread.
As someone else mentioned in a different thread, Texans make sense.

Nah..not really. We should upgrade the position..not just keep the same problem with less mobility.
Dude has CJ and sucks..he'd die here.

No. Hopefully Gabbert plays well enough to allow us to draft and groom a rookie QB.

For $10-12M, yes. He's always been needed to win games with his arm alone. If he didn't score 35 pts, the Lions got blown out. He can be taught to be more conservative. I think he would shine with a good defense and a running game, which is something he's never seen before. There's a lot to work with there.
If teams are looking to pay him north of $15M because it's free agency, forget it.

WTF is wrong with people? Stafford has had an elite receiving core and good OC's hi sentire career who to use the current buzzword is "regressing" under those conditions. His best season was in 2011 and he has gotten increasingly worse putting up QB ratings WORSE than the guy sitting on the bench. Poor footwork, mechanics and doesn't see the field well...sounds familiar. And we want him.
People have pined for Fitzpatrick, Bradford, now Stafford.

I'm for bringing in a vet QB, if Gabbert doesn't work out. You can with with a vet QB sooner than later as long as the right pieces are around him and the coaching is there......stressing the coaching. With that said though.....regardless on who is signed.....the players around him right now won't matter. The niners need to change up this coaching staff before they even think they can get anyone. You have to believe, after Vernon's comments, that other players might feel the same way now.

The disease will still be present as long as the upper management and ownership stays as is. Bring in whoever you want...it will still suck. They canned a top 3 coach after an 8-8 season that they sabotaged. Yorks do a lot of dirty work and a lot of fans seem to eat it up. I don't like the way this organization functions. No accountability, they just look for scapegoats. The way they leak information to manipulate fans. Why are there never any leaks on Baalke, Paraag, Jed? Wonder why? The orgnization is bottom of the barrel. Look how many coaches turn down opportunities to coach here? How do you interview a coach and tell him he has to hire a DLine coach as the DC? This is the kind of organization we have. Wake up people.!

Didn't he have a top 5 defense last year? Who said that SF will have a great defense next year anyway?
I'd rather spend that cash on OL.
