Guys with good PFF numbers sign for starters money in FA.
His numbers might be better in a zone system. Clear he struggles in power blocking.

All those people expect us to Sign Revis, Suh and any other 100 million dollar player. If the zone had its way we would only sign starters and spend anything and everything we can. This just in the fortyniners are going with a 32 man roster and are about a dollar under the cap although many believe Baalke will sign a McDonald's dollar menu item before camp begins.

Depending on how much money he signed for, it doesn't prevent us from drafting a swing tackle.
This is good insurance until 75man roster cuts.
Make sure the draft picks stay healthy through exhibition games, no one crazy good gets released on June 1st cuts and then may the best Tackle win during preseason games.

Can't wait for the rational response to this little nugget,
"Pears, 32, played the past five seasons with the Bills, following brief stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2010) and Raiders (2009). He entered the league in 2005 with the Denver Broncos and played in NFL Europe, which is where first-year 49ers coach Jim Tomsula also coached a decade ago."

A change of scenery can be a good thing...one thing Pears has going for him is he can play both OT and OG. It depends on what analysis of him you're looking at...some weren't good, others had him MOR. He'll be competition, if nothing else...low risk signing, chill out people.

Good as a tackle.
Bad as a guard.
Good backup swing tackle ;)
Martin should be gone

lol, dude, we were just subjected to a season of Johnathan Martin.
well what did we expect? He's a career backup of course he isn't going to hold his own vs legit starters. If he did he would be starting.

Looking at his numbers. He's atlesst average at tackle, seems to struggle at guard. I'm assuming the plan is still for Thomas, M Martin and Looney to compete for the starting left guard position and pears will compete with j martin for swing tackle.

Going into FA, there's no way in hell you're going to land a good OT/OG without spending money. If you want a quality backup, at either OG or OT, you better draft one then. A good OT/OG won't come to your team to be a backup and for s**t money.
