Has the Niners-D became worse? Yes and given the departures one had to expect that.
Has Fangio improved the Bears-D? According to points per game, no.

I also like how he left out Chicago's run defense, which is horrible. Meaning, teams are beating them on the ground which explains the deviation from their pass defense. Also, anyone who has actually watched a Bears game knows their defense is trash.
I get the bad feelings about losing Fangio (I wish he had stayed too), but let's not get carried away here.
